Exploring Life & Business with Cassandra Provenzola of Proven Kitchen and Bath Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassandra Provenzola

Hi Cassandra, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Once upon a time, in the small, warm embrace of Dexter, MI, I embarked on a journey that would turn a passion into a thriving design studio. It all started in 2018 when the daily grind of a treacherous commute and a growing family nudged me to explore something new. I had been working at a design firm, but after endless hours on the road, I began picking up design clients closer to home on nights and weekends. These little side projects—referrals from friends and family—started piling up faster than I could have imagined. Before I knew it, I had enough work to spread my wings and fly solo.

Thus, Proven was born. My little design haven opened its doors in downtown Dexter that fall, with a rambunctious 2-year-old son who greeted customers with enthusiastic barks and a 7-year-old daughter, who—amazingly—now drives! The space was a blank canvas, a former workout facility that I transformed into a cozy, inviting studio that reflected my heart and soul. It felt like a hug every time I walked in. And just like that, five years flew by, and Proven went from a one-woman show to a team of five talented individuals, all working together to create something beautiful.

In 2021, I took the leap and set my sights on a permanent home for Proven. When a commercial building once thought to be a house came up for sale, I saw beyond the worn walls. As we demoed, we uncovered its history—a barn from the 1860s, needing a full makeover. But I had a vision. I wanted a studio that felt like home, a place that would welcome our team and our clients with the warmth of a fall day, the scent of a favorite candle, the soft sunlight streaming through the windows, and a cup of coffee in hand.

Design isn’t just my job—it’s my calling. I see spaces the way some people see a blank page. Each space is a puzzle, waiting to be solved, and it’s my privilege to make it sing for its residents. What I create isn’t just functional; it’s a reflection of the people who live there. It’s that joy of discovery, the thrill of fitting the pieces together to make something unique, that fuels my passion.

Antiques? Oh, I can’t resist them! My love for vintage treasures runs deep. Whether it’s a hand-carved corbel or an old candlestick, I find inspiration in the stories of things with history. My studio is a treasure trove of antique finds, woven into the fabric of our designs. And I’ll let you in on a little secret—my family? They’re all in on the hunt, too. You’ll often find me dragging my husband and kids through antique markets, their enthusiasm rivaling mine as we search for the next hidden gem.

Looking back, it’s wild to think that I’ve been in this industry for nearly 20 years. Even back in the days of sleepovers, I was rearranging furniture and picking paint colors with my friends’ parents. Design was always meant to be my path, and it’s an honor to create spaces that help people live better.

My heart is full of gratitude for my beautiful children, who are often found working alongside me in the studio, and for my husband, who is not only my partner in life but also my partner in business. We’re a team, and I’m so proud of what we’ve built. Our business is more than a company—it’s a family, and I’m blessed to work alongside a crew of talented individuals who truly care about our clients and the work we do.

This is just the beginning, and the adventure continues. Every day is a chance to create something new, and I can’t wait to see where the next chapter takes us.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Construction is anything but a straight path—more like a winding road with unexpected turns, bumps, and occasional potholes. I like to joke that my official title is “full-time problem solver,” because every day on the job seems to open a new door to a fresh challenge. As we peel back the layers of each wall, it’s like uncovering a mystery, and sometimes that mystery leads to frustration. But that’s the beauty of it—no day is ever the same. Each project is a new puzzle, and every day is a lesson, a chance to learn something new and discover a better way of doing things.

It’s never easy, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. There’s a certain thrill in tackling problems head-on, in learning new skills as we go along. And while it might be tough at times, there’s a deep satisfaction in knowing that, with every hurdle we overcome, we’re creating something truly special.

Being a woman in a field that’s still largely dominated by men has its unique set of challenges, too. I’ve had to work harder, be more knowledgeable, just to ensure I’m not questioned. But it’s made me stronger, more confident in my abilities, and more determined than ever to break down barriers. I’m not just here to play—I’m here to lead.

Owning a small business that has grown so quickly is a double-edged sword. The hours are long, and the workload can feel like a mountain at times. But there’s beauty in the hustle. There’s something humbling and fulfilling in knowing that we’re doing important work, that we’re making something better, and that we get to do it alongside a team of people who are truly the best at what they do. I feel incredibly lucky to have clients who trust us with their dreams and a crew of good-hearted humans who pour their soul into every project. There’s a quiet pride in knowing that what we create isn’t just functional—it’s a reflection of the people behind it, and that, to me, is what truly matters.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Proven Kitchen and Bath Studio ?

Renovations are more than just construction projects—they’re a deeply personal journey, and we understand that. We know that when we step into your home, we’re stepping into your life. That’s why we make it a priority to get to know each of our clients on a personal level. You’re not just another bathroom or kitchen to us. We care about you and your home.

While we’re known for our kitchens and bathrooms, what truly sets us apart is our ability to take on full main floor renovations—transforming every corner of your home with the same care and attention to detail. We don’t just remodel spaces; we create environments that are uniquely yours. And, we’re always striving for excellence. Our name, Proven, isn’t just a clever title—it’s a testament to our commitment to quality and competence. It’s also a nod to my family name, Provenzola, which makes it even more special.

What I’m most proud of is how we’ve built a brand that stands for trust and personal connection. Our work is a reflection of our clients, and that’s something I hold dear. We don’t just want to build beautiful spaces; we want to make sure they feel like home—your home. At Proven, it’s not just about the work we do, it’s about the relationships we build along the way. When we finish a project, we want our clients to feel like they’ve gained more than just a beautiful new space—they’ve gained a team that truly understands and cares about them.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
At Proven, we truly believe in the power of collaboration over competition. It’s not about seeing others in our field as rivals; it’s about lifting each other up. Some of my greatest mentors are local business owners who do exactly what I do, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the wisdom and support they’ve shared. We each have our own niche, our own aesthetic, and that’s something to celebrate. My client might not always be my competitor’s client, and that’s perfectly fine—there’s enough room for all of us to thrive, each with our own unique offerings.

We are always on the lookout for talented tradespeople to collaborate with—carpenters, plumbers, electricians, you name it. If you have a craft, we want to work with you. We understand that renovations are a team effort, and having the right partners makes all the difference. Whether you’re looking for a contractor to bring your vision to life or a specialized tradesperson to tackle the finer details, we’re always ready to connect.

Our clients are anyone looking to renovate—whether it’s a simple backsplash or a grand addition, we’re here to help. There’s no project too big or too small for us. We love taking on a variety of projects and putting the same level of care into each one, no matter the scale. We take pride in being able to help people transform their homes in ways that work for them and their families.

But that’s not all! Our studio isn’t just about design—it’s about fostering community. We’ve created a makers area in our studio to celebrate local artisans and crafters. If you’re a potter or a ceramicist, we’ve got a place for your work to shine. We love curating a collection of handmade, locally-crafted gifts for our clients and vendors to shop from. It’s our way of supporting our community and offering something unique that’s close to our hearts. There’s a special kind of magic in giving someone a gift that’s not just bought—it’s created with love, and we cherish that.
