Hi Pilar, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hello, my name is Pilar Torres-Contreras. I am an Mexican immigrant that has come to this beautiful country to conquer my American Dream. I came to United States at 18 years old in the year 1997 where i would work night shifts and clean offices in Houston, Texas. Later on I moved to Detroit looking for better jobs and opportunity’s. I was blessed to start my own residential cleaning business that made me moved to Pontiac in the year 1999. I consider myself to be the one of those people who wants to see growth in the Hispanic community in this city. I have always believed got opens doors but its our obligation to have the knowledge to take advantage of the opportunity’s, and that is how I started in the tax industry, accounting business, and becoming a public notary in Oakland County; without forgetting the importance that I am a mother of 6 kids, a wife ,and a grandmother; but the most important i am a daughter of God.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey has never been easy; being an immigrant who’s first language is Spanish I struggled to learn English and having to deal with my immigration status for years. I’ve also been a single mother and I know the struggles to raise kids on my own. But thanks to my Pastor’s Efrain Perez and Yazmin Reyes who teach me to love my community.

In my businesses i focus on helping and educating the Latin community to take the opportunity that exist in this country, for honest and hard working people so that the can also run their own business and to take advantage of having the knowledge of finances so their able to also start businesses and they can also achieve their American dream
