Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacquelyn Knoll
Hi Jacquelyn, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I went to school in the medical field and honestly always thought that’s where I’d be. After my first child was born, I would do cute holiday set ups and take pics of him his first year, not with anything special, just my iPhone! After maternity leave, I was struggling with the idea of working a 9-5 my whole life and was brainstorming ideas of what I could create on my own. Friends and family put an idea in my ear that I should take photos of their kids and I thought, that could be fun. I didn’t own a camera and had no experience aside from always being the friend with the point and shoot. I started youtubing how to shoot in manual and explored any material I could possibly soak in. About 2 months later we had the funds to purchase my first DSLR and everything took off and continued to build from there. Here I am 10 years later!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think the scariest part of my whole journey was deciding to move full time into my business. I was 2 years into photography at that point and just had my first full year of capturing weddings. I was on maternity leave with my second child and my husband realized there was no way I could go back to work full time when he worked nights. My ‘safe’ plan all along was to return to work and spend that year marketing hard to eventually be busy enough to go full time, but I was faced with an ultimatum that we were not expecting. About a month into going full time I knew things were going to be alright. Having more time to put into my business allowed it to flourish and I now make 4 times my college degree salary.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a creative director/photographer. I explore many different mediums, but I specialize in capturing wedding days and have been capturing weddings since 2016. I am most proud of the connections I’ve created with my clients and other creatives/businesses over the years.
COMMUNITY OVER COMPETITION
There is plenty of work needed around us for everyone! I wouldn’t be where I am today in the wedding world had I not opened myself up to other creatives and made friends. COLLABORATE!
THE CLIENT EXPERIENCE
My clients…I soak in as much of their love story as I can. From the moment they first inquire, my mind is already planning a cinematic story. I care about my couples so much and go above and beyond my photography skills. Preplanning is key to capturing the authentic/documentary way that I do.
What does success mean to you?
Are you happy? Do you love what you are doing? Could you do something different or better next time?
If you can answer yes to all of these this feels like success to me.
We all deserve to do something we love and if you never stop continuing to learn more you can do anything.
