Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Evans
Tyler, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was interested in photography from an early age. I got my first camera in 2013. It was a perfect camera to get me started, a little Nikon point and shoot. After a year with that camera I started volunteering at my church to take pictures for events. I had photographers from my church community help me get started. Those mentors took my hobby and turned it into a passion. After realizing that this wasn’t just a phase, my mom got me my first DSLR for a birthday gift. I took pictures of everything, my friends, landscapes, animals, cars and air shows. I took some time away from photography but picked up my camera again in late 2023, the love and passion was still there. I started working on building my portfolio by working with local models and other photographers in 2024 and it has been an amazing experience.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My mom bought me my first camera, then my second camera. As a single mom, I know now that she really couldn’t afford it but she believed in me. Over the years I had people tell me not to make photography a job or career so I didn’t get burnt out and that I would hate doing it everyday. I can say now that I am moving in that direction, I should not have taken that advice. I had someone close to me not support my dreams of being a photographer and I put my camera away for years. I still struggle with the creative process at times, I think everyone does.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a photographer, I have been taking pictures for more than 10 years now. I would say I specialize in portraits. I love working in and out of the studio doing editorial work which is what I am best know for. I am most proud of one picture I took for a models portfolio, she uses it all the time. Her clients love it just as much as we do! I would say that picture is the one that brings me the most pride. I’ve taken pictures in all sorts of weather and conditions, as long as I have a camera in my hand, nothing else matters. I am a persistent and will do anything to get that perfect shot for my clients.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My biggest cheerleader has been my mom by far. From buying me my first cameras and sharing my work with others to just saying how proud she is of me. A family friend, Beth was huge supporter of me even taking me to my first camera club! Now that I am getting into the editorial side and actually taking pictures for more than just a hobby I would say there are a lot of people that have helped me the most. Most notably, Jon Lybeck and Ira Goldberg of 7 North Studios in Pontiac. Both of them have been a huge inspiration and help. They welcomed me into their studio with open arms and gave me a place to let the creativity flow. Another huge supporter of mine is Jessica Lobb, a fashion model. She is always sharing my work and lifting me up. Another model that has been a huge supporter and friend is Ashlyn Lockhart, I’ve worked with her so much and she has been amazing to work with!
