Conversations with Lacey Schmitt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lacey Schmitt

Hi Lacey, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
First off, I am an artist. I think my plant obsession started with them being muses for my artwork. The intricate patterns and beautiful colors present in nature are a huge inspiration for me. Once I started collecting plants, it quickly turned into a healthy obsession. The gratification of watching my plants grow and transform sent me even deeper into the hobby. I had previous business experience in my past and always pondered the thought of working for myself. So when an opportunity presented itself to open my own business, my artsy plant shop came to life.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the hardest things for me to learn has been how to manage all of the aspects of my storefront without getting burn out. There are so many things going on at all times. Whether it be behind the scenes, bookeeping, watering plants, unpacking new merchandise, inventory, and literally so much more, it can get extremely overwhelming. I’m kind of a headstrong independent, so allowing others on my team to take tasks off my plate is sometimes challenging to accept but I have learned I can not be healthy or efficient if I try to do everything on my own.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I run an artsy plant shop, but my first true passion has always been art. I love to paint with acrylic on stained wood. There’s something about the wood background as a canvas that just adds that extra touch of nature to my work. The things that inspire my art most are bugs, moths, bones and plants. In my shop, I have curated the most amazing selection of oddity items and artwork, all from local artisans. I absolutely love being able to showcase these works and support other artists.

What are your plans for the future?
I would love to own a building for my storefront, vs. renting. I’m a huge dreamer so my list of future plans and goals is extensive and never ending. I’m always trying to work toward whatever the next big thing is on my list that will get me to where I want to be. I am also trying to plan my wedding currently, so I am going to need to learn to be the best juggler of all time to keep up on my business and everything else.
