Today we’d like to introduce you to Lyrik McCree-Enoex
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Born and raised in Detroit, as a young girl I started dance at the age of 2 on Mary Grove Campus. I then began training at Motor City Dance Factory, Directed by my mentor Camielle Johnson, where I trained until I graduated high school. My parents, Sharina Enoex and DeAndre McCree, noticed my love for the art and kept me active. Throughout my childhood I was able to be a part of the Pistons Jr. Automotion, the Detroit Shock Shockwave, Detroit Opera House presentation of the Nutcracker with Joffery Ballet and Cincinnati Ballet. Along with this, I started teaching dance at Motor City Dance Factory at the age of 16, along with my personal training, and being a member of Cass Technical High School Dance Workshop. To further my educational and dance training I attended Western Michigan University. During college I had the pleasure of being a part and the president of Ebony Vision Dance Ensemble , continuing the legacy of mentors Edgar Page and Nicole Johnson. During my time as the President of Ebony Vision Dance Ensemble, I was able to create an annual showcase for the company. My mentor Monique Haley, Ebony Vision’s Advisor, was a great support during this process as well as continuing the showcase once I graduate in 2020. Along with my training at Western, I was able to to train and travel with West Coast Dance Explosion as a member of their Fuzion Dance Company for two consecutive seasons. While training with the company I was able to train under industry professionals like Tre Holloway, Preston Mui, and Kim Wolfe to name a few. After graduating I continued my dance career teaching, and training and performing with Intertwine Movement Collective under the direction of Zandria Lucas. Throughout my dance career, not only have I been able to train under amazing people but I have also been able to perform with some great artist such as Lloyd, Jordan Sparks, Jason Duerulo, Kid Rock, and Neisha Neshae, to name a few.
In 2020, during covid I started my online accessories business, Everything Embellished. As a young girl, I always loved accessories and fashion, When I wasn’t wearing dance clothes I was pulling items out of my moms and aunties wardrobe to wear. Then and now I express myself through fashion .I vividly remember auditions and performances were I was able to tie my love for dance and fashion. Two very expressive aspects combined together gave me the ability to showcase different aspects of myself at the same time. Although I never thought about owning my own business, creating Everything Embellished made sense. It also showed me how intentional Jesus is in my life because he put something I loved and turned it into a desire in my heart to create a business, This business is not all about me however, my business is dedicated to allowing women to feel empowered and express themselves through fashion. Every women deserves to feel great and to have access to great products without breaking the bank. Those same feelings I experienced through expressing myself through fashion and dance, I would love for every women to feel.
While continuing my dance career and owning Everything Embellished, I am the newest director of Code Red Dance Intensive. Code Red is a hip-hop intensive that started at Motor City Dance Factory and has flourished into its own entity. Code Red continually aims to bridge the gap of hip hop training in Metro Detroit area from some of the industries best choreographers. Recently for Season four, Code Red brought in choreographers who have worked with top recording artist like Beyonce, Daddy Yankee,Missy Elliott, Christina Aguilera, and more, allowing opportunities for metro Detroit and surrounding area dancers to train and network with top choreographers
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have definitely had struggles throughout my life but luckily I have always had a relationship with God and a great support system. Being in a competitive industry, it is a lot mentally and physically, It brings so many great opportunities but it also requires a lot. In dance you give a lot, like emotions and times, your job is to give to your viewer, but you also receive a lot. It comes with a lot of no’s and a lot of congrats. With that it is important for me to stay grounded in myself and God. I also lost my dad in 2018 to congestive heart failure, but God and my family definitely helped me through that. My parents sacrificed so much for me to get to this point so giving up is not on my bingo card, Even with being an entrepreneur, I did not go to school for business. I double majored in political science and dance so I never intended on Everything Embellished being a thing. I am a one women show, so creating balance in my life is a daily adventure. However, these are things that are important to me and I value. Jesus gave me these opportunities so I value and execute them to my the best of my ability.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I believe what sets me a part from others is simply that fact that I am me and I have always cherished that. God created us all individually and wonderfully made and that includes me. I genuinely love being me!
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I don’t think I can pinpoint one memory to be my favorite, however, I know that most of my favorite memories stem from spending time with the people I love. I am such a family and friend oriented person and I value all the quality time I have spent with the people I love!
