Today we’d like to introduce you to Taris Smith
Hi Taris, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey into video and digital media began nearly 20 years ago in 2005 when I joined my hometown YWCA’s STEM-based program, “TechGYRLS.” This was where I first discovered digital design, creating a project called “Taris’s Cooking Show” that blended my love for storytelling and cooking. It was during this hands-on experience that my passion for creative expression truly took root.
Over time, I’ve refined my purpose through doing what I love—sometimes through trial and error. My connection to art blossomed in middle school when I found my medium: graphic design. From customizing MySpace pages to creating fun edits, I was unknowingly preparing for a bigger purpose. In 2017, I started my own YouTube journey, and by 2020, I discovered my love for video editing. Encouraged by my family, I turned that passion into a service—and five years later, here I am, doing what I love!
What’s exciting is that I’m still uncovering my full purpose, but my walk with Jesus keeps me grounded and guided every step of the way. It’s been an incredible journey, and I can’t wait to see where it leads next!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, but I’ve come to appreciate how those bumpy roads prepared me for the smoother ones I’m now experiencing. Funny enough, when I started, I knew very little about the “business basics” like profit margins, ROIs, or business plans. My college years were spent studying Family and Childhood Development, with no intention of running a business.
But that didn’t stop me. Most of what I’ve learned has come from good old-fashioned trial and error—or as I like to call them, “experiences.” Little did I know, many of the courses I took would eventually play a huge role in my journey. I’ve gained skills in effective communication, public speaking, and even languages, all of which have been invaluable.
For me, the heart of business isn’t just strategy—it’s relationships. Building genuine connections with those I work with has been the biggest lesson and, ultimately, the foundation of my growth.
We’ve been impressed with Smith Transition Productions LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As a social media manager, I assist my clients in growing their presence on a variety of social media platforms. Smith Transition Productions LLC is special because every case is treated like it is my own–this sets me apart from others. Many of my clients come to me weary and overwhelmed. I work closely with clients to ensure that what we put out the best possible quality to promote their business. I’m known for going the extra mile, and I’m proud of it. Especially when we see the growth in those traffic and sales. I also offer other services such as video editing, portrait and event photography and one-on-one sessions.
In 2025, I will be launching my Social Media Masterclass. It is FULL of resources, tips and actionable advice for anyone who wants to grow their brand on social media but doesn’t know how or where to begin. Thanks to our sponsors, we included a free 60 minute consultation for the first 10 people to sign up for this course. This course is for the beginners, intermediates and the experts. I’m so excited to share this wealth of knowledge with you all!
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Learning my value has been a game changer. Over time, I’ve realized just how much knowledge and potential I bring to my clients’ businesses. Knowing your worth means being selective—it’s about carefully evaluating opportunities to ensure they align with your purpose.
I’ve also come to understand that without my faith in Jesus, my business wouldn’t thrive. He’s not just my guide; He’s truly my business partner. Another lesson? Even the work you love needs balance. “Everything in moderation” applies here too. To avoid burnout, I’ve learned to schedule time for rest and recovery. The more intentional I’ve been about this, the more capable and energized I feel during my workdays.
