Hidden Gems: Meet Candus Rucker of Rucker Property Management Group LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Candus Rucker

Hi Candus, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am a Detroit Native who has been a real estate professional for 10 years now. Prior to moving back home to Detroit I lived in Dallas, TX for 9 years working as a real estate professional/property manager. After much prayer I decided that God was calling me to move back home to Detroit; so in July 2022 I decided to move back to Detroit and hop into the real estate industry here. I initially thought that I would work as a sales agent focusing on selling residential homes throughout the Metro Detroit area however; God had other plans. I quickly discovered that my calling, purpose, and passion was in the real estate development space with a concentration in community redevelopment. I am currently working on a multiphase development project in Detroit located in the Nardin Park community. My project will consist of two phases: Phase One being a redevelopment of a four unit small apartment building and the land adjacent to Phase One will be Phase Two consisting of a new ground up construction apartment building featuring 18 apartment units. My development project will be geared towards offering quality, affordable, safe housing to low to moderate income families as well as senior. It is my mission to restore communities and families through adequate , safe housing here in the great city of Detroit.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road however; I have progressively moved through the many obstacles and challenges. I think my biggest adjustment has been the concept of time and that development takes ALOT of time and energy and you must stay diligent in advocating for your development project. Another aspect of development that I was not aware of is how closely it is tied into dealing with local government entities and making sure that your project is in alignment their ultimate plan for the area.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love the resurgence of the City of Detroit. I am so happy to see that more eyes are on the great City of Detroit and also how much new development and new career opportunities that are being created here. I can do without all the snow LOL but overall Detroit is a great place to live and I feel the time is now for much more opportunities within the real estate development space.
