Exploring Life & Business with Ian O’brien of Mountain Movers Lawn and Landscape LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ian O’brien

Hi Ian, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started off as many others in my industry did. I was a young kid hauling my push mower around and helping the elderly people around me. I took pride in my work and also made sure that the job was done right. Eventually I found that I loved to be my own boss and work on my own schedule and I didn’t mind the extra cash either. Over time I grew a client base around where I lived and I eventually made the big step to make the business official. I landed on the name Mountain Movers Lawn and Landscape, inspired by Matthew 17:20 in the Bible. From there I have continued to grow the business with the support of amazing clients, great friends, and loving family! And of course my Lord and Savior Jesus! It is because of those who have supported me that have helped me grow the business to where it is today!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Its never a smooth road when it comes to business! We have come across many challenges along the way. The hardest part by far has been balancing business with personal commitments. I have been a full time student for the entire duration of the business and with this has come many challenges. I’ve had to plan my time accordingly to be able to strive in school while maintaining excellence with the work that Mountain Movers provides.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We provide lawn and landscaping services. From mowing lawns to laying mulch we do just about anything within the lawncare and landscaping industry. We seek personal connections with our clients and with that try to fit their needs to the best of our abilities. We go the extra step to get the job done right and always seek to make our clients feel appreciated. We love what we do and we love being able to help others!

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The lawncare and landscaping industry has a very unique outlook into the future compared to other industries. With technology and specifically AI growing at the rate it is many industries are starting to see changes within labor in specific. I personally do not see the labor market within landscaping and lawn care changing that drastically within the next couple of years. I see technology coming around to replace the need for human driven lawn mowers. However, most still require an operator or someone on sight. With this aside I still see and witness first hand a high demand for services outside of lawncare. I do not see these positions being taken over by technology any time soon as the jobs within landscaping are typically technical and precise and heavily differ job to job. I do also expect a change as more regulations are being made to push electric equipment. I am waiting to see how this will effect the budgets and with that the fleets that us as lawn and landscapers will have to run. At its current state electric equipment is costly and nearly impossible for many businesses to make this switch. We don’t know what the future has is store but we sure will be here for the ride!
