Today we’d like to introduce you to Lola Elzein.
Hi Lola, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I graduated from law school in 2012 and as much as I would have loved to eventually practice and become a litigator, I knew property law was my calling. I worked at a title agency as a teenager so I immediately took a liking to property law. In 2013, I started interviewing with underwriters in the State of Michigan to sign with so that I could finally open up my own title agency. I had 6 underwriters I was trying to sign with, 5 of them denied me. A few of them told me I would never make it in this market. The one that approved me helped me pave the way for what is now known as, Venture Title Agency. I did not give up. It was extremely difficult to start. I started in a 300 sq. Foot office in downtown Detroit, I was a one-woman shop. And I grew from there. It was a very humbling experience as I had no idea where this journey was taking me, I just followed my heart and my dream and kept going.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road at all. In 2016, I lost the only underwriter I had, and almost had to shut down my doors for business. It was terrifying. What is disheartening about losing an underwriter, they dont have to give you a reason why. i was remitting a great amount to them considering I was still a “start-up”. I was confused and to date, have no idea why I lost them as an underwriter. Their head counsel was perplexed as well, he had even tried to vouch for our agency, and nothing worked. I did not give up. I almost joined another title agency- but that would have caused me to lose a huge percentage in my business, until I met an angel, Jacquie Brink. Jacquie came to me and told me she’ll do whatever she can to help me because she believed in me and she believed in my vision. She believed in my company. She setup a meeting for 3 high level execs from her underwriter, and the rest is history.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m The Title Lady! No really, I even trademarked it! Haha! I handle real estate transactions. We make sure there are no liens and your property is free and clear and then we disburse the proceeds accordingly. I am known for being The Title Lady and I’m most proud of being able to grow in our industry, no matter how many others doubted me. It was noise, I learned how to block it and kept climbing. I believe what sets me apart from the others is community. I’m all about the community and giving back. I believe God put me in this position to help others in need. One of my favorite memories from this journey was when an agent had called me to let me know he has this home in Inkster, MI and it has become a burden. He did not want it anymore. I told him I wasn’t sure how I could help but it anything comes to mind, I would let him know. That same evening, a family came into my office and there was a language barrier. It was hard for me to understand what they were seeking. I eventually understood- they were looking for a home they could live in for a very low rate as they were homeless at the time. I called Alex, the agent who had the home, he deeded it to the people who were so incredibly thankful. They came back to my office in tears and it was truly very humbling and such an amazing story. Their kids finally had a place to sleep and they were able to enroll them in school just in time.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I love working with realtors and if anyone is looking to sell for sale by owner, I would love to help as well. I do training sessions for realtors to help grow their knowledge. Also, I love giving back. Especially to the youth- young females. If there are any organizations looking for someone to mentor future female entrepreneurs- I would love to help.
