Today we’d like to introduce you to Micki Shirah
Hi Micki, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We were given a duck, in April! With no intention of having a farm, we knew he needed a friend so we purchased another Peking duck. Fast forward, we now have 4 mini Highland cows, 2 mini horses, 18 chickens and 4 ducks!
We fell in love with the mini highlands after traveling to a Wisconsin farm, to do more research about the animals. We went back the very next week and picked one out! She was 5 days old, and we named her Stella! We traveled to another farm in Georgia to get her a friend, whom we named Millie! We wanted to get them young so they would grow up around people. We share them with the community by offering Cuddle a Cow sessions. We also offer photography opportunities on our property where you can include the calves.
We plan to breed mini Highlands as well. We purchased two heifers in November, whom are bred and due in June! They will be available for purchase in the Fall of 2025.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Finding a reputable breeder was a challenge in the beginning, as there are many scams with these animals, on the internet.
We have spent many hours putting up fencing and building shelters for the animals. On top of his day job, My husband, Tony, has done all the work himself, from digging post holes, to building horse stalls!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Mini Mitten Acres?
We are a small family owned farm, located on 11 private acres, featuring mini farm animals! At the moment we offer Cuddle-a-Cow sessions with the Highland calves, private parties and events. Photographers are welcome to use our property to capture their special moments! We currently have an indoor Greenhouse available, which will be ever-changing with the seasons and holidays. We are also working on more backdrops for photography opportunities. Besides our backdrops, we also have rows of pine trees, a meadow and a forest of mature trees. Stay tuned as we continue to grow and add more mini animals!
