Today we’d like to introduce you to Marwa Hachem
Hi Marwa , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Art has always been a part of my life, but my journey to where I am today began in the most unexpected way—through my own healing. After giving birth to my second child, I experienced postpartum depression. It was a dark period, but it also became a turning point. I turned to art as a means of expression, using colors and creativity to process emotions I couldn’t put into words. This experience not only helped me heal but also inspired me to help others find their light through art.
In 2022, I opened my art studio in Dearborn with the mission of offering a safe space where creativity could serve as a tool for self-discovery and emotional growth. Today, I offer workshops, art classes, and therapeutic art experiences for both children and adults. Each session is rooted in the belief that art can bridge the gap between spirituality and reality, allowing us to connect with our inner selves.
It hasn’t been an easy journey—balancing motherhood, entrepreneurship, and my personal life—but it has been deeply rewarding. Now, I’m working on expanding my offerings, including an online course to reach people worldwide, and continuing to use art as a way to transform lives.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I believe the challenges shaped me and my journey. One of the toughest struggles was navigating postpartum depression after the birth of my second child. It felt like I had lost myself, and that emotional weight was overwhelming. Turning to art during that time wasn’t just an escape—it became my lifeline and, eventually, my purpose.
As I transitioned into running my own art studio, I faced the challenges of balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship. Building a business from the ground an intense juggling act. There were days when I doubted myself—whether I was giving enough to my kids or if I could make my vision for the studio a reality. Financial uncertainty was also a hurdle, especially in the early days of opening the studio, but I learned to persevere and make the most of the resources I had.
On a personal level, I recently went through a divorce after eight years of marriage. That, too, has been a significant challenge, both emotionally and financially, as I navigate starting over with my two boys and rebuilding my life. Despite these struggles, I’ve found strength in my art and my mission. Each challenge has deepened my understanding of myself and reinforced my belief that creativity can help us heal and grow, no matter what we’re facing.
These experiences have made the journey more meaningful. They’ve taught me resilience and shown me that even in the toughest times, there’s a way to transform pain into purpose.
We’ve been impressed with Marwa Hachem Fine Arts Studio, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business, Marwa Hachem Fine Arts Studio, is more than just a space for creating art—it’s a sanctuary for emotional expression, self-discovery, and healing through creativity. I specialize in offering a variety of creative services that cater to both children and adults. From therapeutic art workshops to Mommy and Me classes, Kids Art Club, and private paint parties, each experience is designed to inspire joy, connection, and personal growth.
What sets my studio apart is its unique approach to art. It’s not just about painting or drawing; it’s about using creativity to connect with ourselves on a deeper level. My workshops for adults often combine elements like life coaching or hypnotherapy, and art therapy creating an experience that helps participants tap into their inner potential and explore emotions they might not have been able to express otherwise.
When I started, I had a humble 500-square-foot studio with no windows. Despite its limitations, it was a space filled with dreams and determination. Over time, I’ve grown into a larger, more inviting space—double the size—with accessible water and a private bathroom inside the studio. Today, the studio is filled with natural light streaming through large windows, where you can watch snow falling in the winter, flowers blooming in the spring, and hear the gentle tweets of birds as you create. It’s a space designed to inspire and connect with nature while nurturing creativity.
One of the things I’m most proud of is how my studio has become a hub for transformation. Whether it’s a child discovering their creative voice in Kids Art Club, a mom bonding with her child during a Mommy and Me session, or an individual finding clarity and healing during a therapeutic art class, each story is a testament to the power of art.
I also take pride in making art accessible and inclusive. For example, I offer a Kids Art Club installment plan to accommodate families, and I’ve introduced unique experiences like Picnic Paint Parties to bring people together in new and creative ways.
What I want readers to know is that my brand is about more than art—it’s about helping people find their light, express their authentic selves, and create meaningful connections through creativity. Whether you’re looking for a fun family activity, a way to nurture your child’s artistic talents, or a transformative experience for yourself, my studio is here to welcome you.
What’s next?
My plans for the future are ambitious and deeply rooted in my mission to bring the transformative power of art to as many people as possible. I’m working towards expanding my offerings beyond the local community and establishing my studio as a global brand. I envision reaching people worldwide through online courses and programs that make creative experiences accessible to anyone, anywhere.
One of my immediate goals is launching an online course designed to help individuals explore their creativity and use art as a tool for personal growth and healing. This course is a big step in creating a sustainable revenue stream while also sharing my expertise with a global audience. I’m excited about the possibility of touching lives far beyond the walls of my studio.
I’m also looking forward to collaborating with like-minded organizations and individuals who share my vision for the role of creativity in mental health and wellness. Whether through partnerships, speaking engagements, or international workshops, I want to advocate for the importance of art in connecting with ourselves and the world around us.
On a personal level, I’m planning to grow and refine my studio’s offerings, creating more unique experiences that blend art with nature and mindfulness. I’d love to host art retreats where participants can immerse themselves in creativity in serene, natural environments.
Big changes are definitely on the horizon, and while there are challenges, I’m energized by the idea of creating something that will leave a lasting impact on people’s lives. My ultimate vision is to build a brand that inspires, empowers, and connects individuals through the beauty and power of art.
