Today we’d like to introduce you to Salena Arkoub
Hi Salena, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Growing up, I knew I wanted to become an entrepreneur. Coming from a family of refugees and immigrants, my father immigrated to Michigan in hopes for a better life. He opened up a shop with little help and became a great entrepreneur, while providing for our family. My father is the inspiration behind my work ethic, actions and aspirations. I have always told my self that one day I will be my own boss, just like my dad. I am now 18 years old and a successfully entrepreneur with big dreams, I currently work in the social media space, I am a makeup artist and a freelance model. My family is my biggest support system, I am both grateful and thankful to have such amazing people around me.
My work ethic began when I was in high school, creating makeup reviews. Since then, I gained a lot of attraction in the beauty community and knew I had potential. I began creating content in 2022 with hardly any prior knowledge about social media. I had to branch out and do my own research in order to understand the algorithm. All the hard work paid off because in 2023, I created more content and began accepting paid collaborations. Social media work isn’t as easy as it may seem, especially being so young in the industry. I was determined to build my way up.
Fast forward to present day, I am in the college of business at the University of Detroit Mercy aiming for a degree in the Business Administration. With academics as my main priority, I have paved my way into the modeling and fashion industry. Balancing work and school has been difficult, however, my motivation and work ethic stays the same. The future holds so much, I have many years ahead of me and InshAllah I will build my self to success.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
If I were to say that my journey has been smooth sailing, I would be lying. Balancing school, work and my social life Isn’t easy. I strive to work hard for my future so I understand that my young adult years are my most important. The key to balancing life is perseverance. My goals are the number one attribute to my motivation. At a young age I had big dreams and throwing those away felt like a waste. I knew it was possible to do anything I put my mind to.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Beautybysalena ?
I began makeup artistry at the age of 17 . I have always had a passion for makeup and decided to begin my journey early on. I started off doing makeup for my friends and family, This soon became a public interest for many women around my city. I began my instagram page and decided to put my foot forward. I used a spare room in my family’s house as my “beauty room” to do clients makeup. Slowly but surely I began to build my clientele and gain public attraction. I even secured my first bridal party within the first year of my business. I truly believe this was a blessing with all the hard work that went into everything. Earlier this year, I rented out my first beauty studio located in Livonia, Michigan and began working as soon as I could. I am forever grateful that I kicked things off at a young age and for all the possibilities ahead.
