Today we’d like to introduce you to Tommy Cook
Hi Tommy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started performing at a very young age. I’ve always had a natural charisma for entertainment, and my whole life, I’ve been exploring ways to polish my craft and discover my professional voice for the past 35 years!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s never been easy, but with the support of my family, friends, and mentors, I’ve accomplished so much. Some struggles along the way include not being cast in the role I was auditioning for or learning complex songs that seem to come so naturally to other musicians. The biggest obstacle has to be grief; after losing my father when I was 17, there was a brief moment when I questioned why I was here. What is worth living for? I recall the best way to harness that extended period of depression was playing bass in a new project and auditioning for another show. Channeling my efforts to something greater helped me find comfort in the sorrow and allowed me to be noticed by other artists for my resilience.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My day job is currently being a public servant for a local municipality. I’m proud of my efforts in giving back to my community and what makes me different is my enthusiasm for service. Being a believer in the greater community allows me to give back with a genuine attitude everyday. I’m grateful for my current role but I’m curious where the future takes me for my career. As long as I am around other people, that’s where I’m most happy.
What are your plans for the future?
I want to travel more! I recently took a road trip to the New England area. It was my first time there and certainly won’t be my last. I didn’t perform, which was a nice reset. But every time I go on vacation, I wonder what it would be like to be on the road. I aim to plan a tour in the next few years and would be pleased to revisit destinations where I already have connections.
