Life & Work with Kitty Pawell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kitty Pawell

Hi Kitty, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Ever since I was seven years old I had always wanted to write. I thought books were amazing, and the characters were all going on the most awesome adventures! So why not create my own adventures? The answer to that question was to begin writing and so I began. Now, something all Indies deal with is the dreaded imposter syndrome and I was quite susceptible to it when I was younger. I would write and then second guess or I would go through bouts of severe writer’s block and just not write at all. Which is the worst thing you can do. Even if it’s just one word or sentence, you have to keep writing. That’s what I attempted to do at first. I started an erotic blog, where I would write spice-based fantasies poems. Just so I could keep my writing going and not let it dry up. Unfortunately, that only got me so far before I stopped writing again. The sad part about that was that I did have readers at this point, but I was still unsure if I could write a full novel. Then in 2022, I discovered BookTok! And through that, I realized that there are several people out in the world with the same fear and uncertainty as me, but they pushed the button and were happier for it. That was all it took and I started writing my first book which was published the very next year. Then I wrote my second book and it was published earlier this year. And now I am writing my third book which will be published next year and I am so grateful that I stopped doubting myself and just pushed the button. That is my best advice to anyone who has just started writing or has been writing for a while but never took the leap to publish. Write and publish your book or books for you. If someone or several people like it too that’s a bonus, but at the end of the day. Write the book you want to read!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been a road! It hasn’t been the smoothest nor the bumpiest. It’s just been a road that I had to navigate. One of the biggest obstacles that I’ve had to deal with is finding my audience. It quite honestly amazes me how many spicy readers there are out in the world, but my book feels like it’s going unnoticed! That part is quite frustrating, but it doesn’t discourage me, because I know that if I don’t keep pushing it or spreading the word then no one will ever see it. So, I keep talking about it and marketing it and I know one day I will find my audience and it will all be worth it.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I work as a full-time customer service representative and I have been in the field for over ten years. It’s always funny to me because I often say that I can’t stand people which in certain situations is very true. And yet I excel in that field. Ultimately I do like helping people and it does make me happy coming up with solutions to solve their problems.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Being in customer service can be rewarding, but it can also be very frustrating. So, escaping into my Kindle app to read and listening to music with my YouTube app helps me quite a lot.
