Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Post
Hi Kayla, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a born entertainer. I started singing as soon as I could talk, from there I grew as a performance artist, from choir, karaoke, cover bands, and my original band Little Heathen, which is a progressive death metal band.
I started painting to have cool wall art for myself, and kept at it until I got better, finding I much prefer using an iPad to create portraits. I’m a trained makeup artist, so painting faces came natural to me.
During the pandemic I started taking my husbands camera into the woods on walks and learning how to use it. Photography kept me healthy, and healed broken parts of me. It’s became such a huge part of my life, I’m in my happy place on a stage or behind the camera.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For music, the hard part has been learning patience. The music we’ve written is very technical and it’s hard to find the right players, for now my band is Myself and my very busy husband, trying to find a time I can record vocals in the studio, and get our music out there, in hopes the right musicians come along to play live.
For photography it’s been a constant uphill climb in learning, and I love it. I started in the woods, and now I’m working with models, and paying clientele. My goal for 2025 is to have a full makeup kit so I can offer makeup and photography to clients: I still go on walks with my camera, sometimes through back alleys, junk yards, and always the woods.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a musician, right now I’m the “karaoke girl” I host karaoke at Rubbles bar in Mount Pleasant Michigan, and soon in Grand Rapids. When it’s time for me to sing I make sure to put on a performance people will remember. I have a cover band with my sister Kelsey in the works, and an original metal band called Little Heathen, with my Husband Dicky.
As a photographer for models and clients, I have been told I am fun to work with, my photos can be anywhere from dark and moody, to ethereal and artistic. As a photographer for my prints, I focus on a moody aesthetic, that is dramatic and eye catching.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love My Home town Mount Pleasant because it’s a community of supportive townies.
