Hi Jayla Emon, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey in beauty started when I was 15, focusing on perfecting eyebrows. It was something I loved and became really good at. As I got older and moved through high school, I began exploring makeup artistry and found joy in helping people feel beautiful. My grandmother was my biggest supporter. She always believed in me, even when business was slow, and I felt like giving up. Her encouragement kept me going when I needed it most. As time went on, I wanted more stability, so I worked in sales while still following my passion for beauty. I spent a lot of time learning and planning to reach my goals step by step. In January 2024, I lost my grandmother, and it was one of the hardest things I’ve faced. She was my rock, and her love inspires me to keep pushing forward. Everything I do now is in honor of her and the belief she had in me. My story is about finding strength, even during tough times, and staying committed to what I love.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road hasn’t been smooth, but I’ve learned to see the beauty in the process. Being an entrepreneur isn’t easy—it’s more than just having a name or a logo. It takes mental and emotional strength to get through slow days, busy days, and even days when nothing seems to happen. One of the hardest challenges I faced was staying motivated during times when support felt scarce. There were weeks when I barely made any money, even though I was working hard to promote myself and build my business. It was especially tough when the encouragement I hoped for from friends and family wasn’t there. Those moments could have made me give up, but instead, they made me stronger. The struggles taught me resilience and helped me stay committed to my dreams. Over time, I realized that these tough times were helping me grow in ways I didn’t expect. My advice to anyone starting their own journey is simple: don’t give up, even when things get hard. You’ve already made it so far, and you owe it to yourself to keep going. Trust the process, take it one step at a time, and know that your hard work will pay off.

While I’m mostly known as a makeup artist, what makes me different is how I do things. I don’t follow trends—I create my own path. Whether it’s my promotions, visuals, or ideas, I focus on being true to myself. I’m proud of my brand name, Emon Beauty Company. It took a few tries to find the perfect name, but now it feels just right and represents everything my brand stands for. I always put God first and work hard to make my dreams a reality. What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The quality I believe is most important to my success as an entrepreneur is generosity. While many people go into business to make money, which is completely fine, they sometimes forget the importance of treating others well and doing business with integrity. Being genuine and acting with good intentions can take you much further than money ever will.
