Meet Youzar of Dearborn, MI

Today we’d like to introduce you to Youzar

Hi Youzar, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always been interested in spiritual practice and philosophy. I remember being in college and reading the Bhagavad Gita and meditating in my spare time. At 23 years old I started practicing yoga and at 24 I entered my first Buddhist Temple and have been going ever since. I’m almost 39 now.

In 2019 I negotiated a remote working arrangement with my employer and booked a one way ticket out of the country. I was looking for adventure and finally had the means to be able to do it the way I wanted. Over the next 4 years I spent my life in South America, Mexico and Europe. Before leaving on my adventure I started experiencing symptoms of Auto-Immune disease. Alopecia was causing me to lose my hair in patches and I was experiencing other manifestations of Auto-Immune disease as well. Because I was traveling I had to see doctors in wherever I was. In total I saw doctors in 4 separate countries and they all said the same thing… there is no cure for Auto-Immune disease. I was at the mercy of this disease and there was seemingly nothing I could do about it.

My search for healing led me to try many forms of therapy and medicine. Eventually, I found myself among indigenous healers that used natural healing techniques and medicine from plants and animals. Desperate for help, I decided to give them a shot. The medicines helped me to release so much built up stress, trauma and emotion that I had been carrying for most of my life. They helped me re-regulate my nervous system and become more emotionally stable. They helped me break addictions and make positive behavior changes in my life and eventually I re-grew my hair. It’s now been 3 years since I’ve had any Auto-Immune symptoms and I’m so grateful to the people and medicines that helped me escape that worrisome situation.

From that point forward I was hooked. I wanted to know more and more about indigenous cultures, healing and natural medicines. I stayed in Mexico and immersed myself in the cultures and ceremonies of the Mayans, Matses, Shipibos and Huichols. It was like throwing gas on the fire of my personal development and healing and, although it was extremely challenging, I loved every moment of it.

My path eventually led me to Egypt where I had the great blessing of being able to share 10 days with an American Psychiatrist and healers from Mexico and Egypt who work with ancestral medicines to offer healing to those in need. We travelled around the country touring the ruins and doing healing work with Bufo Alvarius, a medicine that comes from a desert toad, Kambo, a medicine from an Amazonian frog, and sacred mushrooms. It was this Psychiatrist that opened the door for me to learn more and started what has ultimately become my life path.

Upon returning to the US from Egypt, the Psychiatrist offered to let me assist him in his work. I was interested in knowing more about working with these medicines and had the time to do so (my dad had recently died and I was taking a sabbatical from my career). I agreed and it wasn’t long after when his teacher, a Mexican man, invited me to come apprentice with him in Mexico. It all went so fast. I spent a few months apprenticing and then people started coming to me asking me to guide them through these healing processes. A lot of people came… I think it was about 400 people in my first 2 years of working with the medicines full-time as a facilitator and that was all by word-of-mouth. Doctors were interested too. A number of medical professionals were interested enough in the work I was doing that they were willing to assist me in order to be close to the process and learn. I learned a ton from them too and I think that’s one of the things that really sets my practice apart from others. We really take great care in what we do.

My interest in healing didn’t end there. In 2023 I travelled to India for advanced training in Traditional Kundalini Yoga from the masters in the Himalayan Mountains and then in early 2024 I returned to jungle of Mayan Mexico for an immersive training in Sound Medicine, or the use of sounds and frequencies in promoting healing and harmony in people and the world. I now combine these 3 elements (natural medicines, yoga and sound) to create experiences that support healing and transformation around the US and abroad. I believe it’s a particularly potent combination and enjoy watching it radically change peoples lives. I’ve decided not to return to my previous career so I can continue offering these services in my community and to anybody in need. I believe this is the work I came here to do and find a lot of purpose and joy in helping my brothers and sisters find their ways out of the darkness and back to the light.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Smooth? Hardly haha

There isn’t a traditional career path or game plan for doing what I have been trying to do. It’s an art form that few venture to partake in. My old career was easy… work for a few years, get promoted, then repeat that until retirement. Everything was structured and my paychecks were always deposited in my account when I expected them to be. Now I work mostly for donations and have to make my own work, and run every part of the operation at the same time. I’ve had to learn how to market myself, create and promote events, how to work with trauma, network and generally just make a lot of stuff happen while also navigating the legal system. Feels a lot like blazing a trail mostly on faith but it has been an exciting ride so far.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My art is in creating transformational experiences for people in need of healing or awakening. These are multi-sensory experiences that combine natural medicines, spiritual practice, sound therapy and various other healing modalities to help people liberate themselves from the burden of trauma. Healing is natural and an innate ability of ours. Our experiences are in service to and support your healing process. It’s like a big gust of wind in your sails when your ship is pointed in the right direction.

My favorite instruments are Native American flutes but we develop our experiences using a collection of unique, handmade sound therapy instruments I have collected from around the world. Each experience is unique but you can expect to hear native flutes, Indian drone instruments, monochords, metal and crystal bowls, tubular bells, chimes, drums, and all sorts of interesting instruments from around the world combined with harmonic vocal singing techniques. Every detail is a conscious decision, from sounds to smells to views and feels… everything is there to support your healing. Even the timing of our events is chosen for this purpose.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
To trust… myself, the universe, the work, the art. I’ve had a lot of doubts and anxiety and have certainly spent too much time worrying about how things might or might not work out. In the end it just feels like wasted energy that doesn’t help anything. We can operate in faith that things will be great or fear that they will be bad. I’ve bounced between the two more often than I care to admit but more and more I’m learning to live my life with faith in whatever it is that makes this whole world go round.
