Daily Inspiration: Meet Jazmine Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jazmine Williams

Jazmine, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a COVID entrepreneur. Started my baking business in the mist of boredom and needing fun money for my family. I had this long lost dream to be a baker when I was 13. In 2020 it seemed to be a perfect time to give it a shot. My son’s 4th birthday was the first cake that I made that really sparked the desire. After a few family orders Moma Made It was born. Almost five years later I had pushed through and overcome so many obstacles to keep it growing

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have yet to meet a business owner that had a smooth road. For me, my main obstacle is gaining clientele and then losing it all. I lost my original Facebook after getting hacked and needing to start from scratch which led to rebrand. Then I ended up losing my website and having to recreate. It has been a rollercoaster. Somehow, I managed to pick myself up and start all over again and I’m more proud of my progress than I have ever been.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I find peace in my business because it allows my creativity to run rampant. Clients bring me large ideas that I then I turn enormous because it sounds fun to make. The difference from me and a painter is I paint with frosting and food coloring and my canvas is edible. From cakes to sugar cookies if I can decorate it I will! I am so proud of the skills I have obtained over the years. I remember crying from not being able to get the sides on my cakes straight up and down. Now I carve, shape and even stack cakes like a professional all from trial and error and a little YouTube university.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Never give up seems like the most important thing I’ve learned lately. I wouldn’t necessarily say I have accomplished my goals or even succeeded. I can say out of all the times I thought I wasn’t made for this, I’ve never stopped. The obstacles seem big when you face them but once you overcome you look back and think “Wow, I had no idea how strong I am”. Obstacles often remind me of my passion for my art and that’s always a great pick me up.
