Meet Amber Szabo of The Village Tea

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Szabo

Amber, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In February of 2021 my husband, and three kids moved to Richland, Michigan area from Northern California. Our whole family, friends, and lives were in California so this was a completely new life. We fell in love with this little village and the greater Gull Lake area. Being that I was in the tail end of homeschooling my teenagers I was looking for a way to invest into the community and meet new people.
A new business seemed like the perfect way to engage and invest into this new place. When figuring out what business to start my daily cup of tea and full tea cabinet of curated high quality loose leaf tea became the focus of my passion. Tea had been a constant thread in the tapestry of my life, from tea times with my grandmother, spending 36 hours in London with tea at Westminster, to a tea garden tour in the Indian jungle. If you come to my house or place of business the first thing I will offer you besides a warm hello is a cuppa tea! I hope to introduce many people to thier new favorite tea and the ritual of rest that it can bring.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
So far the road to Michigan and in business has been smooth. Getting out into the community and finding networking connections takes time, but I enjoy that part and will allow it all the time it needs. Just like good tea, it takes time.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Village Tea?
The Village Tea specializes in curating delicious and high quality loose leaf teas. Inspiried by this great state of Michigan the teas are named after places and things that Michigan embodies. If you’ve never experienced the flavor of loose leaf teas, The Village Tea is a great place to play. From $1 samples, free tastings weekly, and small smelling jars for you to smell the aroma of every tea we have in the shop. We also enjoy putting together events around the experience of tea like, poetry readings, tea parties, book signings and more.

What were you like growing up?
I was an independant, creative, and pensive child. I loved music, art, gardening, animals, and spending time with my friends and family. I spent much of my childhood playing many instruments and participated in marching, jazz, and concert bands. I love having jazz, classical, and soul music playing in the shop.

Pricing:
