Hidden Gems: Meet Linda Macchiarolo of Town Peddler Craft & Antique Mall

Today we’d like to introduce you to Linda Macchiarolo

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In 1992 I was managing a small craft mall in Dallas, and realized the concept should be a big hit in my home state of Michigan. So my husband Matt and I pulled up stakes and moved to Michigan; 18 months later, we opened our first store, and it’s still going strong!

A lot has happened in the 31 years since…three kids, five dogs, five stores! We now just have the one location, and have been focused on making it the best in can be for the past 25 years. We’ve learned a lot about what drives excellence in retail, and have done our best to put what we learned into practice…and our store is doing better than ever.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When you’re first starting out, you don’t know what you don’t know. I was fortunate in my dad was a successful business executive with an endless reserve of customer-service advice, my husband is great at processes and procedures, and we’ve found some great business consultants that taught us a lot.

And we’ve found that what we’ve learned has helped us to cope better with the inevitable struggles that come up…for instance, the Great Recession hit us hard, and we learned to “think outside the box,” adapt and streamline to become more efficient, and pivot to find new sources of revenue.
