Daily Inspiration: Meet Delphine François

Today we’d like to introduce you to Delphine François

Hi Delphine, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Detroit made me a tour guide and a photographer !
Upon my arrival in Michigan in 2013, I fell in love with this truly unique Midwestern city.
I arrived in 2013 as the wife of an expatriate. My husband, working for a French automotive supplier, brought us to Detroit for his job. As a mother of three children, I initially had a lot of work settling the family, but I was eventually able to explore my new country. I began discovering the city of Detroit through my camera lens. At first, I was drawn to the ruins, but soon I grew to love its history and its people. To better convey my vision of the city, I developed my skills as a photographer as well as my abilities as a guide.
“Say nice things about Detroit !!” could be my motto !
Today, I am proudly a guide in the city of Detroit. I accompany French journalists and visiting families. I am even listed in the prestigious Michelin Green Guide, which was recently published about the city. As a photographer, I never tire of Detroit, a city in the midst of transformation. It’s wonderful to witness this rebirth. I have also developed a special affection for the people and enjoy capturing the beautiful moments of their lives through my portraits.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Every life change comes with its share of challenges.
Moving to a new country and adapting to a different culture is still sometimes demanding for my family and me. But the richness of the connections made and the openness to the world are well worth a few sacrifices. The two professions I pursue today are far from my original training, but they are heartfelt vocations, and I am delighted with the path I have taken.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a photographer, I like to say that I work in a memory factory !
My passion for photography has grown over the years; first in the smiles of my children, then in the eyes of my friends, neighbors, and clients.
I am one of those people who cast a kind eye on the world, and I love to capture through my lens the joy of success, the pride of a job well done, moments of complicity, and shared happiness.

As a tour guide, I speak about Detroit from the heart. My passion for the city and its history is contagious. I love explaining the city, its beauty, but also its scars. Seeing my clients ask questions and spark their interest in the city is my greatest reward. Once, a 10-year-old girl told me at the end of a tour: It may not be the most beautiful city in the world, but it has a lot to say! I was overjoyed.
