Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Tolic
Hi Marcus, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Right out of college, I landed a job in IT with GM, and while it was a fantastic opportunity, I quickly realized it wasn’t my true passion. My interests had always leaned more toward hands-on work, specifically in building and remodeling homes—a passion I’d been pursuing well before and even during college. I spent years learning the ins and outs of labor, picking up valuable skills that laid the foundation for where I am now.
Eventually, I decided to follow my heart and pursue this passion seriously, so I got licensed as a builder in Michigan. That decision transformed my life and career. Now, my business is taking off, and I’m incredibly grateful to be doing work I love every day. I’m blessed to have a fantastic team by my side and a group of clients who trust me to bring their visions to life. It’s been a journey, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has definitely not been smooth. Starting out, I faced my share of struggles. Transitioning from a steady corporate job in IT to the unpredictable world of construction was a big leap, and it wasn’t easy at first. There were moments of self-doubt, especially during the early days when projects were few and far between, and I had to work hard to establish a reputation.
One of the biggest challenges was learning the business side of things—everything from bidding on projects to managing client expectations. There were also times when unexpected issues cropped up on-site, like structural surprises hidden behind walls or delays in permits and materials. Each obstacle taught me something new, but I had to learn to adapt and stay calm under pressure, especially when the stakes were high.
Building a reliable team was another challenge. Finding people who share my commitment to quality work and customer satisfaction took time. But now, after overcoming those bumps, I feel stronger and more capable, and I’m incredibly grateful for the team and support system I’ve built. Looking back, I realize those struggles were essential to shaping who I am and what the business has become.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was the quiet, shy kid who preferred to stay on the sidelines, observing more than talking. I was always a good listener, and I think that curiosity about people really shaped who I became. As I got older, I slowly started coming out of my shell. I found myself drawn to conversations, listening to others’ stories, and learning from their experiences. It was a gradual shift, but the more I engaged, the more confident I became in connecting with people.
Over time, I went from being the kid who was more comfortable in the background to someone who genuinely enjoyed talking and building relationships. That change helped me a lot in my work today. Listening, understanding others, and making people feel heard have become cornerstones of my approach with clients. That evolution made me comfortable with all kinds of people and situations, and it’s been a big part of why I love what I do.
