Today we’d like to introduce you to Destiné Kidd
Hi Destiné, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born and raised as a pastor’s kid to the best parents ever! My parents Gary D. Hooks Sr. & Angela Hooks were my world and my very best friends. In August 2016, my dad unexpectedly passed away and then in October 2020, my mother passed away after a short battle with cancer. This put me in a state of confusion, anger and deep sorrow, but I could not stay there because I was a new mom and a new wife. God literally used my husband Eddie to love me back to life. But also because my parents had instilled such a godly foundation in me that instead of running away from God, I ran towards him. I ran towards him angry. I ran towards him confused. I ran towards him hurt — and he was big enough to handle every emotion I brought his way. I began to know Jesus Christ in a new way & the more intimate I became with Him, the more instruction he would give me. In 2021, the Lord instructed me to gather six women together to pray. From that simple act of obedience, the Lord birthed Crowned Queens, a community created to encourage and support women on their journey with God as we draw closer to Christ. Crowned Queens is everything Jesus + Prayer + Sisterhood! Almost 4 years later that group of six women has grown into a community of 100+ women and we gather weekly rather it’s virtually or In-person, for Prayer every Thursday at 7pm!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No it has not been a smooth road, some of the challenges that I faced was losing my parents of course. The same year that I lost my mom is the same year that I became a wife and a mother, I had also just started out in my ministry and became a business owner. Everything I was doing, my mother had already done and I didn’t have her here to guide me. I truly had to and still have to lean on the Holy Spirit for guidance, wisdom and correction. God teaches me what I don’t know.

I’m just a girl who said yes to God!
I have a prayer ministry that’s located here in Detroit, MI by the name of Crowned Queens. It’s where dozens of women gather to talk, pray and worship God. It’s truly a safe space for all who gather and there are countless testimonies of how this Jesus + Prayer + Sisterhood experience has changed many lives.
I am most proud of the lives that Im getting to see be changed because of my “Yes” to God. I am a disciple of Christ and he has instructed me to go and make more disciples so that’s what I am doing.
What matters most to you? Why?
Besides my husband and our 3 handsome sons, what matters most to me are souls. I want to see people lives changed through the power of Jesus Christ. I want to see people come to know Christ for themselves and witness his love and his transformative power.
