Life & Work with Jess Evans of Traverse City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jess Evans

Hi Jess, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
The traits my children have continue to grow. This has left me with an ongoing task to find experiences in our small town that cater to their character building. That is how Polie Party Co. came to be. One day, while my girlie girl was playing, I thought, “How cute would it be to pour tea for her friends rather than her teddy bear and dollies?” That’s all it took. I decided I wanted to host a tea party, a princess tea party at that! When I couldn’t find anything remotely close to what I was looking for, I decided to plan and execute one myself.

There is an indescribable feeling when you meander across your own calling. I decided to throw my daughter a tea party and suddenly Target had a tea party line in the $1,3,5 section. Michaels was filled with coquette. Homegoods had shelves lined with teacups and pots. The world was aligning. Just for me. Just for her.

“But why stop there?” I thought. I have always been a lover of hosting. I’ve always embraced party planning. Children’s birthdays, holiday gatherings, work events, you name it. My son deserved an ode to him
of course, and that is where the idea of Lego parties came to be. From the beginning, I have concentrated on inclusivity for all
genders and ages.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Trying to scale an event business after the 9-5 hustle and bustle hasn’t been easy. Weekends were previously spent grocery shopping, cleaning, and preparing for the next week of school. Those tasks still have to be completed, and so finding time to build an idea that deserves to thrive has shown its difficulties.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My full-time career is in insurance. I work in the wonderful world of Hagerty, talking about classic cars and core memories all day. It’s a wonderful job and allows me more event experience along the way!

In highschool, I worked the career program for Culinary Arts and hospitality. I went on to work 12 years in the service industry before finding my way to insurance.

The call back to connecting with people on a more intimate level than over the phone has been my biggest pull when leading back in to the event planning life.

I am incredibly proud of the life I have lived and currently give my children with so many things juggling on the spinning plates. I think I do a wonderful job at multi-tasking while keeping life fun and memorable for my little ones!

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Not every business plan turns in to a million dollar company in the first year. When you have found something that you feel so passionately about, that you carry love and dedication towards as if it’s your own child- that’s your calling. Make it happen, before somebody else does!
