Today we’d like to introduce you to Deanna Brown

Hi Deanna, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Deanna Brown, and I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, in a close-knit family that has always been a source of strength and inspiration. My parents played an essential role in my life, supporting me at every step, and for that, I am forever grateful. I am also a proud mother of four wonderful adult children and a “MiMi” to my two cherished granddaughters, whom I consider my “kisses from God.”

Teaching was my calling for many years; I was a 5th-grade teacher, and I deeply miss my time in the classroom. I look forward to returning to a school environment, even on a part-time basis, to share my passion for education and support the next generation of learners. Soon, I’ll be an alumnus of Wayne State University, graduating in Winter 2024 with a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership. While I hadn’t planned to step away from teaching, life’s twists and turns eventually brought me to a new and unexpected chapter, one that I’m incredibly grateful for.

When I was presented with the chance to purchase The Tina Marie Shop, a beloved business with over 70 years of history, I saw it as both a blessing and an opportunity to honor the legacy of this longstanding community hub. None of this could have been possible without God, who has guided me through each step. I am also deeply thankful to my aunt Sandy, who introduced me to the shop’s former owner, Karen Przybylski, a remarkable woman who graciously guided me through the ins and outs of the business.

Through this journey, I have been incredibly blessed with the support of my business partner, whose unwavering dedication has been crucial in bringing my vision for The Tina Marie Shop to life. His hard work, patience, and belief in my goals have truly been a driving force behind our success. From the moment we began this venture together, he hit the ground running, working tirelessly with his team to help transform our ideas into reality. His commitment has extended beyond just the day-to-day; he has helped shape the future of the shop, infusing it with fresh ideas while honoring its rich legacy. I could not have asked for a better partner in this journey, and his contributions continue to inspire me daily.

My children have also been a tremendous support—helping financially, working at the store, handling behind-the-scenes tasks, and encouraging me through the hardest days. My mother, who came out of retirement to work part-time in the store, has provided invaluable support as we transitioned into this new chapter.

With over a decade of experience as a real estate agent, I already understood the importance of delivering exceptional customer service—a principle my uncle calls “customer delight.” On April 17, 2024—my mother’s 75th birthday—I signed the contract to officially become the owner of The Tina Marie Shop. With tremendous support from my business partner, friends, and family, we unveiled the shop’s new look in a soft opening on April 27th, which would have been my father’s 79th birthday. It was a heartfelt celebration with close friends and family.

The Tina Marie Shop has a proud history of serving our community since 1947, offering quality products and services that have made it a beloved local staple. After a brief hiatus, we reopened our doors on May 1, 2024, under new ownership and with a renewed commitment to the excellence our loyal customers have come to expect. Our mission is to honor the legacy of The Tina Marie Shop while introducing fresh, innovative ideas to meet the needs of today’s customers.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road hasn’t always been smooth, but each challenge has taught me valuable lessons. One of the significant struggles has been finding the right fit for the ladies who work as consultants in the store. It’s essential to have a team that not only understands our vision but also embodies the spirit of exceptional customer service we strive for. Building that cohesive team took time, patience, and a lot of trial and error.

Additionally, transitioning from a more relaxed schedule to working full days on Saturdays has been an adjustment. In the past, I was accustomed to having weekends off, but now I’m fully immersed in managing workflow to ensure our customers have a seamless and enjoyable experience. Balancing all aspects of the business, especially on busy days, has required careful planning and organization. However, these challenges have pushed me to grow as a leader and have ultimately strengthened our team and the service we provide.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At The Tina Marie Shop, we specialize in providing a personalized shopping experience that caters to the unique needs of our community. Our focus is on quality products and exceptional customer service, ensuring that every customer feels valued and appreciated. We’re known for our welcoming atmosphere and our dedication to “customer delight,” a principle that resonates throughout our team.

What I’m most proud of is how we’ve honored the legacy of this beloved establishment while infusing it with fresh ideas and innovative approaches to meet the needs of today’s customers. Being a part of the local community for over 70 years, we understand our customers’ preferences and strive to maintain the high standards they’ve come to expect.

What sets us apart from others is our commitment to building meaningful relationships with our clients. I truly believe in the importance of listening to our customers and understanding their needs, which helps us tailor our offerings to provide a unique experience. Additionally, my background in education and real estate gives me a unique perspective on customer service, allowing me to create an environment where people feel comfortable and engaged.

Overall, I take pride in the collaborative spirit of our team, the support of my family, and the connections we’ve built within the community. Each day is an opportunity to create lasting memories for our customers, and I cherish being a part of that journey.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
Absolutely, the success of The Tina Marie Shop is a collective effort, and I owe a great deal to several incredible individuals who have played vital roles along the way.

First and foremost, I want to express my deep gratitude to my parents, who have been my pillars of support throughout my life. Their unwavering encouragement and belief in my potential have inspired me to pursue my dreams fearlessly.

My aunt Sandy deserves special recognition for introducing me to the shop’s former owner, Karen Przybylski. Karen has been a remarkable mentor during this transition, sharing her extensive knowledge of the business and ensuring I was well-equipped to take the helm. Her guidance was invaluable, and I am grateful for her generosity in passing on her expertise.

Additionally, my business partner has been instrumental in bringing my vision to life. His hard work, dedication, and patience have helped me navigate the challenges of running the shop. We’ve worked closely together to create a seamless shopping experience for our customers, and I couldn’t have asked for a better ally in this journey.

I also want to highlight the support of my children, who have stepped up in numerous ways—from working in the store to providing emotional encouragement on tough days. Their belief in my vision has been a source of motivation and strength.

Lastly, our loyal clients have been our greatest cheerleaders. Their feedback and support have shaped our offerings and inspired us to continually improve. Knowing that we have a community that believes in us keeps us motivated and dedicated to providing the best experience possible.

In summary, this journey has truly been a collaborative effort, and I’m thankful for every mentor, supporter, and client who has played a role in our success.
