Conversations with Lorence Scott

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lorence Scott

Lorence, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
For me it started off as just an idea for something to do. I had been working the same job for 5yrs. 3rd shift 12 hrs 5 to 6 days a week. I’ve always enjoyed cooking for my family and friends. They’ve always said I should do something culinary but, I never took it serious. Before that 3rd shift position I was in sales for many years. I have a natural love for people and community. When I decided to do Hotdogs coney dogs etc My decision was based on what I liked and what I thought others would enjoy. Here in Michigan we use to have hotdog carts right inside of the Home Depot. Best dogs ever. Just before Covid something happened. The local Home Depot that had those carts they changed their ingredients on me. It was totally different. The dogs the buns etc. After covid Home Depot took the carts out completely. All I was left with was delicious memories of how it used to be. lol. Also the brand that they used befor the switch Pre Covid was Koegels. The best in the world. I mean the whole line of products. Also, they are based in my home town of Flint. So I had a idea. I said what if I buy a cart use Koegels and other great Michigan products like Faygo Better made etc and create my own thing. My family said, That’s stupid lol. Home Depot didn’t even make it. But I thought to myself I’m Fat Man Noks. (Watch this) But I knew that the public would appreciate it and be happy especially Hotdog and sausage lovers. With that being said, I purchased a cart scouted a location negotiated a deal to serve from that location. I kept my head high turned my Grind on and began to service the community. Kids eat free really made the word spread. Consistency coming out doing the same thing everyday made it spread even faster. I began to establish a network of customers that’s unmatched also friends and contacts that allowed me to set up in front of their business and be a part of many many great things and events around the city.Long story short 2 yrs later I’m here in my Brick and mortar restaurant with The best team in the world and the same customers that I started with from day one on the cart. We are gaining new customers and new love daily. The feeling is remarkable and the sense of community is unimaginable. Shout out to the city of Wayne and Westland. Shout out to my team and my family none of this would have been possible without you.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My biggest struggle was getting out of my own way. I had an idea of how everything would go so I thought. Truth is you just have to let things flow and trust the process.
