Conversations with Chakyra Harris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chakyra Harris

Hi Chakyra, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Prior to getting into real estate, I worked for a big mortgage company based out of Detroit. I was on a team that would assist with preventing foreclosures. We’d get clients approved for modifications, forbearances and even short sales. When covid was finally somewhat over and the moratorium was lifted, a lot of people could not manage their mortgage and sometimes those plans just wouldn’t work. Foreclosure rates were on the rise and I didn’t want to be on that side of the business anymore. I wanted to be the one putting the keys in your hand opposed to taking them away from you. That’s where KEYS WITH KYRA came from.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
A smooth road? In real estate? lol laughable. This industry isn’t for the weak. I learned that very quickly. Being an entrepreneur in any industry has its challenges. My biggest challenge has been putting myself out there, i.e door knocking, cold calling. I’m literally asking strangers on a daily to trust me with, sometimes, the biggest transaction of their lives and they don’t know me from a can a paint. But, it has to get done.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a realtor, but I don’t just sell homes. My vision is to help people transition to the next chapter in their lives. Whether they want to start investing and build generation wealth or grow their families or even downsize because their kids are off to college; I’m there to hold their hand and prepare them for the next phase in their lives.

I’m newer to the business but I’d have to say, I’m most proud of quitting my 9-5 and betting on myself. Although I tried, I couldn’t continue to stay at my previous employer and do real estate as they considered it would be a conflict of interest. I took that as a sign and made the transition to doing real estate full time. I couldn’t have chosen a better brokerage to hang my license at. The training and support is unmatched.

What sets me apart from others is my commitment. When I first signed with my brokerage, I’d literally be in the office every day-unpaid. I attended every class, every coaching, every training. You’d think I slept there lol. Being there so much helped me build great relationships with many seasoned agents, some of which who specialize in luxury real estate. I get the chance to learn from them and even hold their listings open time to time.

How do you think about happiness?
Referrals! But no, being the person people can depend on, makes me happy. It’s, in a sense, a form of approval, recognition and flattery.
