Life & Work with Lauren Howell of Traverse City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Howell.

Lauren Howell

Hi Lauren, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve had a love for interior design as far back as I can remember. From antiquing with my grandma to HGTV marathons with my dad on the weekends. I was always changing my room or rearranging furniture with my mom. In college I had the opportunity to help staging for a realtor and starting taking on friends and family as clients. After we had our first daughter, and pregnant with my son I knew I wanted to further pursue my passion and with the big push of my husband, opened up G & Co and started taking on clients. G standing for my daughter, Georgie and Co, my son Copeand. (now we have 2 more littles!) I assumed I would have a client here and there, maybe helping decorate a bedroom or living room and absolutely never expected to be where we are today. After 3 1/2 years in business, we are currently doing multiple full home renovations each year. Our business has exploded and our passion has only grown!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Haha! I laugh at this, only because smooth is something I would never use to describe our business. We have learned more than we ever thought possible. We jumped in with a passion and little knowledge and have learned so much about the business. We continue to learn and go everyday, but always stay true to our business morals and passion of design. Our clients and teams are amazing and have helped us get where we are today.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a designer. My brain works off full creative concepts and organized chaos. I am lucky enough to have gotten to the point where my clients trust me in the creative process. I love progressive design and classic/natural elements. I use a lot of inspiration from nature, travel, European vibes and natural materials. I am most proud of how far I have come as a designer and the confidence I have built. I am true to myself and follow my style gut. I am not afraid to take risks and challenges. I am here for my clients, to give them a space they love and never want to leave. That is my first priority.

What matters most to you? Why?
Everything I do is for those four little kiddos I get to call my children. Showing them that they can take risks and follow their dreams. They can do anything they set their minds to. I want to be an example of how you can be an amazing mama, but still follow your ambitions.
