Meet Kirsten Field of Kids Crafts

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kirsten Field

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hi, I’m Kirsten,
As a mom, I was tired of buying the same boring craft kits that only lasted 20-30 minutes and then ended up in the garbage because of low-quality materials. I wanted more for my girls. I saw the importance of teaching them about influential women and thought, “what if I created crafts kits that combine the introduction to these mighty women with a tangible keepsake craft to remember their story?”

This idea launched the creation of our LeadHER craft collection. These empowering craft kits work to educate kids on mighty trailblazers and give them the opportunity to create a high-quality keepsake to remember their story.

Being an entrepreneur, I also wanted my girls to have the opportunity to learn how to start their own small businesses. Seeing me start my own company, inspired them to start their own small businesses. They’d cut bunches of mint from our garden and sell them to our neighbors for mojitos. (The apples don’t fall far from the tree!)

I wanted to transform this “lemonade stand” idea into a business-in-a-box craft collection that would spark the hunger for children to want to be the next generation of CEOs. Our InnovateHER collection does just this! Along with all of the fun craft materials to create their finished products, we provide packaging and a Mighty Girl Business plan to help kids understand the basics of how to start your own business.

I’ve worked hard to create craft kits that will engage your children longer, teach them valuable lessons, get them off their screens, and show them that they are capable of ANYTHING they set their minds to.

We are a woman-owned small business and are proud to give back to organizations that are working to empower girls across the globe.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Prior to Covid, I created themed craft kits for Bass Pro Shops, Cabela’s, and Macy’s for their in-store kid’s events. When the pandemic forced events to get canceled, I knew that I needed to pivot. Craft kits were our wheelhouse, but I knew that I needed to find a niche with our crafts instead of just creating another “dreamcatcher” craft kit. I realized the impact of highlighting historically mighty women through our crafts could show girls they are unstoppable. Now, instead of purchasing a “dreamcatcher” craft, they could purchase a “dreamcatcher” craft and learn about a mighty trailblazer that had a dream to catch!

This realization sparked the creation and rebranding of our entire company. We decided to start over from scratch and develop a company with the sole mission of empowering girls through our crafts.

In order to do this, we created three collections:

Our LeadHER™ collection introduces pre-teen girls ages, 7-12, to mighty trailblazing women like Frida Kahlo, Maya Angelou, Amelia Earhart, and Rosa Parks, while creating a lasting, year-round, keepsake that can be displayed proudly in their room.

Our InnovateHER collection is for the crafty girl with an entrepreneurial spirit and is designed to jumpstart a girl’s first business!  This collection features everything she’ll need to construct, package, and sell the handmade crafts she creates. We also include a Mighty Girl Business plan to get her thinking like a boss.

Our CreateHER collection features our beloved self-adhesive felt craft kits that were similar to what was created for our customers prior to Covid.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our woman-owned business specializes in creating modern craft kits for preteens themed around powerful female trailblazers and jumpstarting girls’ first businesses.

Designed for crafty girls with an entrepreneurial spirit, our InnovateHER modern craft kits foster creativity and provide an opportunity for girls to earn extra spending money by creating their own businesses.

These craft kits teach young girls the basics of entrepreneurship. Each kit includes all the necessary materials to construct, package, and sell the handmade crafts they create. We also include a Mighty Girl Business Guide to show her exactly how to set up a successful business.

While our LeadHER crafts are themed around mighty trailblazing women. Each kit includes an educational story featuring a wise leader, a thought-provoking discussion card that includes questions to challenge girls to think like LeadHERs, and high-quality materials to make a tangible keepsake craft to remember the trailblazer’s story.
