Rising Stars: Meet Whitney Waz of Detroit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitney Waz

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Well first and foremost I started this journey a long time ago. I have always been super outgoing and I’ve always loved singing so it kind of was a part of me since the beginning. I started out singing at talent shows when I was a kid and then moved on to auditioning for American idol and The Voice in highschool. But the most pivotal moment for me was when I was in 3rd grade and I went to my first concert and witnessed Three Days Grace, Hinder, and Nickleback. And it was history after that. I knew I had to be doing what they were singing and jamming on stage to songs they made, it felt so magical. Since that day I’ve performed all over the United States and internationally into Canada! I’m currently in the middle of releasing my EP called, the psychosis project or maybe summer diaries I haven’t decided haha, I just hit 55 thousand streams for a record I did with my homie, Curator! Super huge and feels so good and I’m excited about the visuals that I’m bringing into my project with the help of the homie Frostyyyy ! So life is good and I’m really happy with how my music career in unfolding🫶🏻

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There’s always bumps in the road but that’s what makes the journey even more rewarding. I know it’s cliche but it’s true. The journey makes it all worthwhile though so I’d say they were just lessons learned. I will say for anyone looking for advice, trust your gut, trust your heart, and move in alignment with that and theres no way you’ll fail.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a professional songwriter and singer! I dabble in music production but I excel in vocal production, no doubt! But also always excited to learn and grow more in all areas! I’ve been playing a lot of guitar lately and I’m pretty stoked on that, forsure. I’m known for singing alternative pop that encompasses a lot of electronic dance music elements like dirty drops and heavy bass. ( MY FAVV ) I’m proud of myself in general to be relentlessly pursuing my dreams, I’m a hard worker so it feels good to see the rewards of that.

What sets me apart from other people is probably my ability to see things from multiple perspectives and turn them into a story with various meanings, I love singing, but I also reallly LOVE songwriting, lyrics are important and I love writing them.

I’ll be performing at Big Fam October 5th in Brooklyn Michigan I have an hour long set 12–1 am!
