Rising Stars: Meet The Brothers Ralph The Brothers Ralph of Lansing

Today we’d like to introduce you to The Brothers Ralph The Brothers Ralph

Hi The Brothers Ralph , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
The Brothers Ralph have been playing music together since we were young children. From violin to trumpet, and bass to guitar, music has always been the fabric that makes our relationship so strong.

Now, as adults, TBR performs our album, “The Chronicles of Ralph”, all over the state of Michigan, and has performed in many different capacities throughout the US and world. We are currently working on our follow-up double album, “Ralph Strikes Back/Return of the Ralph”, and can’t wait to share it with listeners around the world!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Nothing good ever comes easy. Playing music is not for the faint of heart, but The Brothers Ralph are dedicated to finding their path through all of the many obstacles life throws at us.

In 2020, we faced a global pandemic head-on, and fought our inner demons after losing our mother. COVID shut down the local music scene and disrupted the progress we were making individually. However, during that same time, we decided to pivot and begin a new path to honor our family legacy. That is when TBR was created. We haven’t looked back!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
The Brothers Ralph have been making albums under different aliases since high school (Res Publica, Speak Easy, Wicklund, East Harvest, etc.). We caught the music bug early in life and have never been able to shake it!

We released “The Chronicles of Ralph” in 2023, which was recorded live in two takes. We are very proud of this album because it is truly unique, especially in this modern era of music where you can replicate any sound without performing. We call The Chronicles our “busking” album, and it was the backbone of our sound since the inception of TBR. Anyone who has seen us live can feel the energy when we strip down to our busking sound!

What sets us apart is our musical versatility. We incorporate many different genres, instrumentation, and moods to our sound. We have finished 5-7 songs for our upcoming double album, which features orchestral/classical, bossanova, and mystical/theological influences, in addition to rock/indie/funk tunes!

We have a vast community of dear friends and musical acquaintances who stretch our musical capacity every day. We wouldn’t be where we are without them!

We are proud that we have never given up the dream; we’re still chasing the stars and giving back in our community through church. It would be easy to stop playing music, but at what cost?!

What matters most to you? Why?
Family and community. Art is the backbone of ancient society and we are proud to embrace that heritage to make our community/family proud. We make music as brothers because it’s fun, but also because we know the value it brings to our relationship. We firmly believe that our music, both through TBR, and through our music ministry at St. John’s Student Center and Parish, makes the world a little better place. If we inspire one person through our music, we are doing something right!
