Rising Stars: Meet Vernon Carter of Grand Rapids

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vernon Carter

Hi Vernon, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
When I think about how I got my start, it goes back to when I was about 15. That was the age I began to realize I was an artist. Becoming fond of poetry, English (articulating myself) and film/acting. I began to write things down and visualize or as some would call it “day dream” about having a life that involved these passions not only as a passion project(s) but a way of life and business.

Today I would say I’m getting there and excelling further into a dream that never died, which i have a tattoo on my shoulder a pharse that simply states ” Dreams Never Die” – because truly they don’t, it’s just a matter of if we can take the path the full route to them. There is a route to take, twist and turns and detour, but there is a way to get there – we must find and remain faithful on the path even during uncertainty in transit. Remembering, to tell yourself “I’m still on the way” rather than stop.

I believe, this is an important concept to all success.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Great Question, I would say belief in yourself and what you are fully capable of is a hurtle I dealt and still deal with from time to time.

As entrepreneurs, we are inherently dreamers, subject to the anxiety of failure.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

I am the Lead Creative Director and CEO of Function Presents and also a musical artist. I specialize in bringing big visions and necessary work to see the light of day. Presenting the function of businesses, artists, and communities in a very real way. I like to create authentic content and utilize that authenticity to create interest and intrigue within the physical and online space for my clients. Which in turn ends up as results, expansion, and a clear vision of and for them.

I’m known for creating emotionally connecting content with a clear message. This often sets me apart from the rest, that and other course style haha.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
It’s Funny you asked that I have been saying “I Love My City” often lately but it wasn’t alway like that. Traveling around over the last 12 years, when you return you usually end up appreciating so much that you overlooked before. I’m loving it, I love Grand Rapids.
