Today we’d like to introduce you to Mekhi Smith
Hi Mekhi, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Well when I was young I was always making skits and videos in middle because I loved watching vine a lot. Eventually I wanted to use a real camera in high school so I got me a canon camera. Then I started to get obsessed with concert images and magazine covers so I decided to start getting into photography.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wouldn’t necessarily say it was a smooth road. One of my main challenges was putting myself out there in person. When I started in high school, I just took pictures of my friends at school. It really started to kick off my senior year of school when I started going to events and networking with people.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
So I am a local photographer both for digital and film. I specialize in both most people know me from the film photography. I can honestly say that I’m mostly proud of the accomplishments I received this year. From doing concerts pictures and fashion show pictures.
I think what sets me apart from others is the style I use when taking pictures. Don’t get me there are quite a lot of film photographers in Detroit who are phenomenal, but I think using film style has more personality and depth.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I feel consistency is best quality to have you’ll never who can come across your stuff.
