Check Out Adam Schroeder’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Schroeder

Hi Adam, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started playing guitar when I was 10 years old, when my parents bought me my very first guitar as a gift. At that time I was really into classic rock. By the time I was a teenager, I became a full on metal head. But what really got me going as an artist was receiving classical guitar instruction in college. That altered my life to be where I am now—playing fingerstyle guitar music anywhere and everywhere!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nah, not really. I just mentioned going to college, but I’m actually a college drop out. That failure hit hard, and that time was incredibly hard for me psychologically. It’s also tough in the early stages as an artist. You get ignored and told no a lot, which is incredibly disheartening. It was also very uncomfortable performing without any prior experience, especially doing something niche like fingerstyle guitar.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I play fingerstyle or classical guitar. Essentially, I’m trying to emulate a band with only one guitar, playing multiple parts at a time, including percussive parts. Baroque music is one of my specialties, especially anything by J.S. Bach. But I play a wide variety of styles, including ragtime, rock and pop covers, Spanish guitar classics, and even original music. Speaking of original music, I am quite proud of it. It took a long time to develop the skills and knowledge to compose solo guitar music, but I’m just really happy I got to contribute something to the guitar repertoire.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I’ve only been doing fingerstyle guitar for a fraction of the time I’ve played guitar, roughly five out of 14 or so years.
