Today we’d like to introduce you to Melody Lebert
Hi Melody, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I went to high school in Clarkston and I am now attending Western Michigan University for Music performance on Double bass with a minor in art. I have painted two murals for the university one of Michigan’s wildlife and the other on the university’s seed library. I also sell my paintings at some small businesses across Michigan.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Balancing the demanding practice schedules of double bass with the creative process of painting requires exceptional time management and discipline. I had to learn very quickly how to manage my time while at college to fit in both music and art on top of studying for other classes and working.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in murals and acrylic paintings. My first mural I did in high school as a memorial for Madisyn Baldwin. Since then I have completed two murals for Western Michigan University. The first mural I did at wmu was of Michigan’s Nature and the second was done on a seed library cabinet. I also do canvas paintings and paint on broken instruments. I love combining my love for music and art by painting on various instruments such as violins, violas, cellos, and basses.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My advice for finding a mentor is to seek out someone you truly admire and approach them with an open mind, ready to listen and learn.
