Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Brown.
Amanda, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
When I was 12-years-old, I was getting the mandatory sports physical required to be cleared to play sports. During the physical, I found out I have scoliosis. Since then, I have always gone to a chiropractor for overall spinal health. I graduated pre-chiropractic from GVSU and then from Palmer College of Chiropractic – West in California with my doctor of chiropractic degree. Upon graduating, I did a one-year residency program in Upstate New York with the Veterans Health Administration. After that, I worked at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center on the Comprehensive Pain team. Life eventually brought me back to Michigan and I worked in the Center for Integrative Medicine at Henry Ford Health for over three years. Again, life, family and kids caused me to re-prioritize and I opened my very own private practice, Northville Spine Care so that I could work closer to home. I now serve people, mostly with low back pain, in the Northville and surrounding areas. I am also starting an online coaching program for low back pain, called BackWise Spine Programs.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road. I moved a lot, taking jobs wherever my career took me. It was fun and I learned a lot from some of the best providers in our country! After getting married, my husband’s career moved us to Savannah, GA and for the first time in my life, I was unable to find a job. I also had our first baby there. After moving to Michigan, I had two more babies (three in four years) while working full-time. I have been challenged by some of life’s biggest questions over the past few years and ultimately decided to prioritize my life in a way that serves my family while also serving my patients. In my current practice, I spend more time with people than I was ever able to in a hospital setting, providing better care while also being close to home if one of my kids needs me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Northville Spine Care is a progressive clinic specializing in low back and neck pain. From the very first visit, people feel at home. They are listened to, validated and given more time than in most clinics. The first appointment includes a 45 minute examination, explanation of what is causing the pain, a treatment and a game plan to fix the pain as quickly as possible. I always give people exercises to do at home so they feel empowered and capable of fixing their pain on their own. These exercises are sent directly to the person’s phone in a video format. I also educate people about their spines. Northville Spine Care follows all of the most current guidelines to treat neck and low back pain, meaning we do not x-ray everyone, we do not ask people to come back forever and we truly care.
How do you define success?
I define success by never giving up. Putting one foot in front of the other despite hardship and finding the strength to make choices that ultimately allow you to have the life you desire.
