Rising Stars: Meet Claire Palmer of Traverse City, MI

Today we’d like to introduce you to Claire Palmer

Hi Claire, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my business in November of 2021 (officially), but my love of design started well before this. Since I was younger, I have been looking for ways to express myself while also trying to make a difference.

Enter – my lemonade stand, rock painting business, and dog walking business from my childhood.

I majored in Professional Writing while I was in college, and while I chose this major mainly because it meant I got to do something I found easy (writing) while doing something that I loved (reading), I also fell in love with the little bits and pieces of design that were sprinkled throughout my collegiate career. I learned about design principles, theories, rhetoric, and user experience and knew that I wanted to take that with me into my future career.

I’ve made countless mistakes and missteps, but I know that each of these things has gotten me to where I am today. Now, I am a successful brand & website designer and work with clients both locally and from all over the world.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has absolutely not been a smooth road. There have been times when I wanted to shut my laptop and never open it again. I’ve struggled with imposter syndrome, not knowing how to fix a mistake, not understanding how to move forward on a project, and a million other things that would take too long to write.

For anyone who has ever wanted to try something new, please know that there will be challenges, but it is worth it. I can promise you that every single hardship is worth the payoff.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a brand & website designer specializing in working with creatives, service providers, entrepreneurs, and small businesses. I have the opportunity to bring life and strategy to my design work and give my clients a brand and a website that not only will perform well but will also be something that they are obsessed with and believe in.

What makes you happy?
Professionally, I find immense joy in finding ways to help others and when I feel I have made a difference in someone’s life or business.

Personally, I find immense joy in very little things: soft duvet covers, perfectly salted pasta, lemon water, ducks walking across the road, kind people at the grocery store, a really well-made spicy marg, rainy days where I get to do nothing but read, and spending time with my family and friends.
