Today we’d like to introduce you to Dj Harrington

Hi Dj, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started photography as a high school student in 2015. It was just a hobby at first. It took a few years for me to start taking things seriously. I would do a photoshoot here and there for friends, but never consistently worked towards making it my full time job until after I was married and we had my son. In 2023 I decided to try to expand my clientele and turn it into a side gig. I LLC’d my business, worked on my website, and started marketing myself with the help of my wife (a business and marketing major). Within a year we have grown exponentially. It has since turned into my full-time job, and my wife and I are traveling the country for weddings. We recently won an award for best portrait photographer in genesee county, and won Davison Michigans favorite photographer in 2023. We are published in 4+ magazines, and majority of our clients are people we don’t know prior to their first session. Within the next couple years we are hoping my wife can also do this full-time, as she has joined the team as associate photographer and the one that leads the back end of everything in the business. We got here by working on getting leads every single day, and proving that our work is worth it by showcasing the end result on social media and our website.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
From the very beginning, no. There were several times I stopped picking up my camera completely to handle other life priorities, such as getting married and having our son. But once I put my mind to it and worked towards making it my full-time job things started going more smoothly. It is still a very time consuming job working to get leads and secure clients, but it is well worth it.

We’ve been impressed with Dj Harrington Photography, LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We specialize in wedding and lifestyle photography. We travel anywhere for work. What sets us apart is we are a husband and wife team that does anything we can to make the best experience for our clients. We care about our clients on a deeper level rather than just doing business. We love building relationships with them and really getting to know our people. We care way more about the feeling our clients get when getting the photos back, making new friends, and making people feel comfortable more than collecting a paycheck. Not only do we love when clients to come back to us, but we love seeing all of their milestones, and feel so lucky to be a part of them. During a regular shoot my wife is there to assist with poses and directing the clients while I focus on capturing the memories they are creating. During weddings we are both behind the camera working as a team to ensure every detail of the day is captured. We are most proud that we have grown so quickly, and have been able to make this my full-time job so I can be with my family more on the weekdays.

How do you define success?
Success to me is a sense of fulfillment. I am happy with my work and feel fulfilled with what I do, therefore I consider myself successful. Doing what I love while providing families with beautiful photos to remember their memories by is all I could have hoped for.
