Rising Stars: Meet Elizabeth Porter of Mid-Michigan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Porter

Hi Elizabeth, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It all started when we found and purchased our late 1800s Victorian home here in Michigan and my love for all things home decor. Once we moved in, I quickly started sharing my various diy home projects and decorating ambitions online. I grew an online following rather quickly of like-minded home decor and old home enthusiasts. I now have a YouTube channel about 2 years old with over 50,000 subscribers. My channel is called Elizabeth’s Old Maple Home and I document everything we do around our historic home. Including many thrift trips for one of a kind vintage and antique home decor, room makeovers and seasonal decorating.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Honestly, my channel and online presence took hold right away and captured an audience without much friction. I am now experiencing some ebbs and flows, which I think is common for most creators.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have always been a creative person. I had a long and successful career as a hairstylist and makeup artist in northern Michigan. After leaving that career to be a stay at home mom, I turned my creative energy into a mom blog that was also very successful. Again, I sold that blog to focus on my YouTube channel. I love sharing what inspires me and connecting with others who share the same passions.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The algorithm is always unpredictable when it comes to having an online presence on someone else’s platform. However, there are so many opportunities online to share and connect. People are looking for connection and inspiration. I don’t think social media is going anywhere any time soon. Building a loyal audience may get more challenging in the future as our attention span shortens.
