Conversations with Tanya Babenko

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanya Babenko

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Greetings, everyone! I am thrilled to have the opportunity to share my journey with all of you in the hopes of inspiring someone out there..
My name is Tanya and I am local brow artist in Oak park. I am specializing in permanent makeup and services such as brow lamination, brow hybrid tints and shaping.

Originally hailing from Ukraine, I ventured to the United States as a student studying economics. Life took its twists and turns, leading me to make the decision to stay in this new land. My American adventure began in the beautiful paradise of Hawaii.

With a deep-rooted love for cosmetics, I delved into the world of selling professional cosmetic sets. However, after a few years, I felt the pull to leave the island in search of greater professional opportunities.

Taking a well-deserved break, I immersed myself in the wonders of Europe for a year. Upon my return, I found myself drawn to Michigan, where I decided to settle down. I often jest that it was the state that chose me.

While I currently work in sales, my passion for the beauty industry remained steadfast. This led me to pursue further education and obtain a license. Instead of working in a salon, I took the bold leap of opening my own establishment!

Taking on the roles of boss, master, fixer, and even blogger, my journey was challenging yet incredibly fulfilling. Mornings were dedicated to working with clients, while evenings saw me waitressing to gather resources for my business.

As life unfolded, I found love, got married, and eagerly awaited the arrival of our little one. However, due to my husband being in Ukraine amidst military turmoil, I made the tough choice to close my salon to focus on a healthy pregnancy. Renting a room in another salon allowed me to continue serving my loyal clients.

Fortunate to have their unwavering support, I navigated the joys of motherhood while juggling my beloved profession. As I look ahead, I envision myself at 70 as a grandmother known for creating incredible eyebrows! Discovering and pursuing your passion truly is a gift from destiny.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Every day, the greatest obstacle I encounter is myself. As a solo artist, I can never simply come home and unwind, putting work out of my mind even for a moment. My mind is always buzzing with fresh ideas, striving to perfect my performances. It is a fascinating process that both fuels me with energy and demands a lot from me.

I refuse to be the type of person who blames economic conditions or the government for slow times. I firmly believe that it is up to us as individuals to make a difference. Therefore, I reiterate that my biggest challenge is myself.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Since 2019, I have been known as The Brow Artist. Specializing in permanent makeup techniques such as ombré brows, powder brows, and lip blush, I have dedicated countless hours to honing my craft. I have invested time in taking classes in Europe and practicing on fake leather and even bananas.

I fondly recall my teenage years, shaping my mom’s and friends’ eyebrows, dreaming of one day beautifying as many women as possible. Now, I spend my days doing just that, and I am grateful that people pay me for it.
I consider myself incredibly fortunate to not only enhance the brows of my clients but also to pass on the art of brow crafting to other estheticians. It brings me great joy to help them achieve their goals in the beauty industry, sharing my knowledge and skills to uplift and empower others in their craft.

I often ponder if I would still pursue this passion if I were a millionaire. The answer remains a resounding yes – at the very least, I would continue to enhance the brows of my mom and close friends.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My childhood was filled with a huge amount of adventures and travels. One of the vivid memories was a trip with my father to the island of Crimea for a whole month. It was exciting!
We explored ancient castles, hiked through stunning mountains, and swam in the crystal-clear waters of the Black Sea. My father taught me how to fish, and we spent evenings by the campfire sharing stories under the starlit sky. It was a magical time that I will never forget, and it ignited my love for travel and exploration.
