Hi Mindy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in the thumb of Michigan, which was a fantastic place to spend my childhood. After high school, I attended Michigan State University, where I explored two potential career paths. The first was as a Purina Sales Representative, and the second was becoming an Independent Sales Agent. Ultimately, I chose to become an Independent Sales Agent because I wanted to work for myself and had the drive to be my own boss. This decision set me on a path that has led to many rewarding experiences and opportunities, shaping my professional journey to where I am today.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges was adjusting to the demands of being my own boss. While I valued the independence, it also meant that the success of my business relied entirely on my efforts. There were times when I had to really dig in and work incredibly hard to achieve my goals. Balancing all the responsibilities and ensuring everything got done required a lot of dedication and perseverance. These challenges, however, have also been some of the most rewarding experiences, teaching me resilience and the value of hard work.

Our business, McIntosh & Associates, is a women-owned enterprise that has been running successfully for over 20 years. We started from the ground up with a mission to focus on and serve individuals who need comprehensive healthcare and financial services. From there, we began assisting with income planning and protection, allowing us to be a supportive pillar for the people we serve.

One of our proudest achievements is our evolution and the deep trust we’ve built with our clients. We’ve grown from a small healthcare-focused operation into a comprehensive service provider, ensuring that our clients receive the best possible advice and support in all aspects of their financial and healthcare needs. I also authored the book Cultivate Wealth, and we share our expertise through our Wealth Michigan with the McIntoshs show and the Mid Michigan Retirement Report on ABC 12. Additionally, we are proud to be in the upper 1% of our industry through our FOCUS path.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned along my journey is the value of hard work and the importance of truly understanding and listening to people. Growing up on a family farm, my parents, Ray and Lorie Krohn, instilled in me a strong work ethic and the value of a dollar. They taught me to earn my own way, which has been invaluable in my professional life.

My mom also emphasized the importance of seeing the good in people and genuinely listening to them. This lesson has profoundly impacted how I approach my work. It helps me focus on the journey of healthcare investment and income planning by truly understanding the goals, dreams, and worries of the families I serve. These principles guide me in providing the best possible support and solutions for my clients.
