Today, we’d like to introduce you to Julie Beach.
Hi Julie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I am the Founder and Director of Jubilee Farm. I have been teaching for the last 30 years and farming here for 10 years. My family has been a part of the agricultural industry in this community for 164 years. Their dedication and hard work helped feed this community and our country. Jubilee Farm was built on the foundation of five generations of farmers. I also have four children and noticed as they grew, their peers spent less time outside, exploring, getting dirty, building, using their imagination, and asking questions. It was not just children that spent less time interacting with the natural world but families as well. I believed that our community needed an “unplugged” option where children and their families could engage in good old fashioned fun. This is how Jubilee Farm grew into a unique place that offers families learning opportunities with an agricultural focus.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe you can tell us more about your work next?
In 2020, our farm grew from raising and showing Mini Silky Fainting Goats to also include a one-room schoolhouse that we use for agricultural learning. Since the beginning of the agricultural programs, we have had over 1000 families visit Jubilee Farm.
In our fully licensed play-filled learning programs with an agricultural twist, I go beyond the animals that live on a farm and playing with tractors to how the machines work, why we have animals on a farm, and all that goes into getting a glass of milk to the dinner table. I take big concepts and break them down into bite-sized pieces so that children can learn abundantly about this very important subject.
While on the farm children are immersed in unique, engaging learning opportunities. These opportunities promote the growth of a child’s imagination, problem solving skills, academic abilities, social skills, literacy, self confidence and understanding of agriculture. From our Farm to Table Play Space to the Mud Kitchens to the Bell Tent Nature Center, and everything in between there is so much to explore. It is the goal of Jubilee Farm to instill in a child a love for learning and a sense of wonder that will provide a steadfast foundation for lifelong learning.
