Hidden Gems: Meet Kristin Revere of Gold Coast Doulas

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Revere.

Hi Kristin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have a background in advertising sales and political and nonprofit fundraising. After having two kids later in life, I realized how little support women had in pregnancy and early parenting. I searched for resources and experts and assembled my dream team for each birth. I started teaching childbirth classes soon after my second child was born, and my students asked me to be their doula.

My passion has always been supporting women, but now I am all about supporting moms. I own a birth and postpartum doula agency in Grand Rapids, Michigan, called Gold Coast Doulas. We are a one-stop shop from conception through the first year, offering classes, an online course, birth doulas, lactation, day and overnight postpartum doulas, baby registry services, and sleep consulting.

I co-host the Ask the Doulas podcast and co-created the Becoming A Mother course. I wrote a book with Alyssa Veneklase called “Supported: Your Guide to Birth and Baby,” which launched on Mother’s Day.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The pandemic was challenging. Our in-person classes went virtual, and not all hospitals allowed doulas in during early COVID.

We still offered newborn care at home, but many of our clients weren’t comfortable with that support. We pivoted and created the Becoming A Mother course to offer support to students and clients no matter where they lived.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Gold Coast started in 2015 as our area’s first full-service doula agency. We expanded to cover Northern and Southwest Michigan for day and overnight postpartum care in 2022.

We offer virtual and in-person services. Gold Coast Douals is a certified B Corporation and is proud to blend profit and purpose. Our core focus is overnight postpartum support. We want our clients to get the rest they need to be productive during the day. I am proud of our new book, “Supported: Your Guide to Birth and Baby,” released on Mother’s Day. It is the perfect baby shower gift and is available as a print book, e-book, and audiobook.
