Meet Shandra Redwine

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Shandra Redwine.

Shandra Redwine

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always had an innate passion and foundational drive to live a vibrant life create change, and encourage others (especially women) to face fears, find their confidence and voice, and lead vibrant, authentic lives. Shortly before turning 30, I embarked on a journey to take control of my health and the direction of my life.

I was a very busy small business owner (a salon), I was 100+ lbs overweight, struggling with drinking, and very much feeling the effects of my lifestyle choices… and I wanted to become a mother. In the five years that followed, I went on to lose 115lbs, had two beautiful sons, and began to document the journey on social media.

Clearly, my story and content resonated because my accounts grew rapidly and led to a slew of national media appearances where I shared my candid account of weight loss, motherhood, trauma healing, body image, and so much more. In 2017, I launched LoserMentality, where I began helping others (mostly women) to build better habits, create positive change, and reach goals (weight loss and otherwise) through online courses, workshops, and retreats.

In 2018, I suffered a traumatic miscarriage which led to weight gain and escalated my daily drinking habit. All of which I shared publicly. In 2021, I finally found sobriety and I’m very proud to be celebrating three years on May 17th, 2024. Over the past couple of years, I’ve expanded to new social platforms and grown to an even larger audience. I’m always looking for new ways to connect with more women, hosting lives, retreats, courses, and workshops on topics like sobriety, weight loss, habit-building, body confidence, and more. I’m 40 now, and more than ever, it’s evident how deeply masses of women (of all ages) are struggling with these things.

There isn’t a woman I speak to that doesn’t relate to some or all of it. Growing and learning as a human being is something that’s never “done.” I believe we are all beautiful examples of works in progress. I believe in a woman’s ability to change the way she lives, feels about herself, and shows up in the world because of it. Nothing is more fulfilling to me than helping others do the same for themselves.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Is it ever? Not a chance.

1. There are some really interesting things you learn about yourself and the world when you lose a large amount of weight. You have a unique understanding of experiencing the world through a range of different bodies. Put simply, it changes everything – your opportunities, outlook, support, perception, physical capabilities, clothing options, medical care… I could go on and on.

These things create a big rift in your perception of yourself. I (like many, I believe) truly thought that losing weight would lead to automatic self-love and happiness. This is not the case at all. I’ve spoken to hundreds, maybe thousands of women who share the same experience. Happiness and confidence cannot be found at the completion of a goal, they are a separate thing entirely. If you want to feel contentment within your body and life, you have to find it where you are.

2. If you don’t discover and heal the broken parts of yourself that lead to the problem in the first place (weight, drugs, alcohol, whatever), “fixing” the problem almost always leads to a new one. In my case, my obesity became weight loss, became an obsession, and became alcoholism. It took many years of reflection, self-help books, and therapy to face and understand the underlying trauma that created it in the first place.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve been a small business owner for most of my adult life. I opened my first business, a salon and day spa when I was 25.

After nearly ten years in that industry, I made a big pivot into the world of digital marketing, working for a local creative services and marketing firm for four years. In 2015, I started my 2nd business, Redwine Digital Marketing, where I help individuals and businesses with effective digital marketing strategies. 99% of the work I do is digital, so I have clients of all sizes all over the country.

My work in marketing has certainly influenced my success in building a personal brand, and In 2018, I launched Loser Mentality, my 3rd business. LoserMentality encompasses my work as a content creator and influencer, as well as affiliate partnerships and all of the workshops, courses, and retreats I host and build.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Hands down, my “realness”. Authenticity is my most sacredly held personal value. Without your honest words, I don’t believe you have a foundation to stand on. It turns out it’s also the thing that so many women relate to and appreciate.

It’s at the root of everything I do, say, and allow in my life. I believe that if you want to live a big life and make big changes, you have to do the big work, and that starts with radical honesty. It’s almost never easy to look at your own faults and face your biggest fears, but it’s the only way.
