Today, we’d like to introduce you to Micah Reuss.
Hi Micah, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
When I was little, my older sister carried a little point-in-shoot camera around. She would take photos of flowers and things around the house. It was always a hobby of hers growing up. Entering my 20s, I started shooting while working at a church doing college ministry full time. I shot as a second shooter for several weddings and took many grad photos and portrait shots.
When I got married and left my job working for the church, I knew I wanted to make photography full-time. My sister-in-law is an Interior designer. She took a chance on me as her Interior Design photographer. From there, I fell in love with interior design photography. To this day, most of my work involves interior photography, with a side of weddings and portraits. My dream is to do this as long as I can because I love it so much!
Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
It’s been an awesome journey seeing new opportunities come my way and learning more about camera equipment. I think the biggest obstacle would be my confidence.
Learning to believe I have what it takes and that I’m really good at what I do. Challenges would be having patients during months when you don’t have a lot of shoots scheduled. It can be scary at times, and I just have to trust God that He will provide.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I mostly specialize in interior design photography, with portraiture and weddings on the side.
I’m most proud of my photography with interior design. I knew nothing about it and built my business bigger and bigger by learning and believing I had what it took.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Developing a strong relationship with my sister-in-law, and she took a chance on me to start my photography business.
