Today, we’d like to introduce you to Emma Howard.
Hi Emma, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Emma, and I am currently a full-time mother of three kids and a part-time content creator. I began my online presence in 2017 after I had my first daughter. I began blogging to share my journey with motherhood, specifically postpartum life as a first-time mom.
I found that sharing my honest, real life online was not only helpful for me but to fellow women and mothers also. Now, I share my mental health struggles, my real life, and how running has helped me to become a better mom and feel like myself again.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest challenges I face as a wife, mother, runner, and content creator is finding a balance between kids, school, content creation, housework, etc.
It can be so hard to find time for all of it, and often, certain aspects of my life will fall to the wayside for long periods of time. I still struggle with homemaking and keeping house, and I share openly about that online as well because I know I am not alone.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My main job is being a stay-at-home-mom to my three kids, ages 6, 4, and 2. I also substitute teach at an elementary school. But I’ve become most well-known for being a runner in my community. I encourage all of my friends, coworkers, family members, and even acquaintances to give running a try. I am really proud of the growth I’ve seen in my life because of my commitment to running.
I share about my mental illness diagnoses online often and my history with struggling mental health. I have historically been on many medications, went to therapies, and regularly had to adjust my daily life due to my mental health. When I started training for my first half marathon in 2022, I noticed I was having an easier time managing the symptoms of my mental illnesses. Eventually, with the guidance and approval of my physicians and care team, I was able to gradually decrease my medications to the point where I didn’t need them anymore.
Running has become the most powerful tool I have to feel my best on a daily basis and show up well for my husband and kids. I am not a fast runner; I don’t have any amazing records to brag about, but I can confidently say that running has completely changed my life.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned since beginning my running journey is that, just like in life, there are not shortcuts. Many things just take consistency and time.
For so long I felt like I was “behind” in life, and that I needed to do more to get to where I wanted to be. Whether it’s your spirituality, marriage, fitness, no matter what it is, keep working at it with consistency, don’t give up, and you will start to see the results.
