Today we’d like to introduce you to Maddie Palmatier.
Hi Maddie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Ever since I can remember, I have been fascinated by all things beauty. In my free time as a kid, I was always playing with my mom’s makeup, doing someone’s hair, painting my nails, and trying new skincare products. I absolutely loved the idea of making people look and feel beautiful. Although I spent so much time as a kid experimenting with the beauty industry, I never thought that this was going to become my career.
Out of high school, I was very undecided and ended up choosing to go to Lansing Community College. Halfway through my first semester, I knew that it wasn’t the best fit for me. After researching and receiving advice from my parents, I decided to sign up for a tour of the esthetician program at Douglas J Aveeda Institute.
While on the tour, I quickly realized that this was my dream, and I signed up for the program on the spot. I have always had a passion for helping others look and feel their best, so pursuing a career in skincare just made sense to me. Esthetician school seemed like the perfect way to gain the skills and knowledge and ended up being the best decision I ever made.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
After graduating from Douglas J, I took a job at a high-end spa. I was extremely excited and ready to take my new skills and knowledge and share them with others. After a couple of months of working there, I realized that it wasn’t the best fit for me.
As a young esthetician right out of school, I was sad and discouraged that my first real job didn’t work out the way I thought it would. However, leaving that job was the best thing for me. I quickly realized that this was not a failure, but an opportunity for something much greater than I could ever realize. I took a leap, and decided to become a solo esthetician and start my own business.
When I was first starting off as a solo esthetician, I definitely had some struggles. I remember having lots of doubts and was worried if my business was ever going to be successful. Starting up my business was costly and as a young 19 year old that was a lot to handle. The thought of establishing a strong customer base seemed daunting and I knew it would take time and a lot of work.
Staying focused and determined has helped me overcome these struggles throughout the past year. Although I’ve had some challenges along the way, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Each struggle has molded me into the person I am today. Challenges are only opportunities to grow and evolve for the better.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I offer a wide range of services. Everything from facials, dermaplaning, face/body waxing, eyelash extensions, eyebrow tinting, and lash lifts & tints. I absolutely love performing all services, however, if I had to choose a favorite it would currently be lash lift & tints. I love enhancing one’s natural beauty and making people feel beautiful on a daily basis.
When it comes to facials and skincare, I believe that my treatments provide full relaxation using essential oils and professional skincare. Each facial is customized with products to target each individual’s skincare goals and concerns. Everyone deals with their own skin insecurities, and I absolutely love helping people achieve their goals.
When receiving a service, my clients are taken care of with the utmost respect and relaxation. I provide people with a rejuvenating experience that leaves them feeling refreshed and renewed. This past year of being a solo esthetician has been so rewarding. I have learned so much and have met so many amazing people along the way. I’m very grateful to have found my passion and can’t wait to see what the future holds.
