Today, we’d like to introduce you to Taniza Brown.
Hi Taniza, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Taniza! I’m 26 years old. I’m from Detroit, Michigan. I started my small business, CandyCoatedtreatss, when I turned 22 in August 2021. What led me to do candied-coated fruits was the thrill and excitement I got from learning new things. In my teenage years, I was never comfortable with just settling for one career; I just always felt like whatever I was doing wasn’t enough. Coming from a family that was okay with settling for less, I just knew I had to be the one that took risks as I was trying new things and learning from mistakes.
My life flashed before my eyes in 2021 I was diagnosed with SLE Lupus it was pretty scary for me, I had to change my everyday routine from doing whatever I wanted to watch what I eat or put on my skin. I had to take it easy; it was hard for me to keep a job because I was always fatigued. I felt like it was my journey to become an entrepreneur and share my talents with everyone. This way, I could create my own schedule while balancing my autoimmune disease.
No matter how hard it gets every time a customer supports my small business, the smile on their faces in the positive feedback is what keeps me going. It amazes me every day how you can turn fruit into something sweet, sour, and delightful. “I mean come on who doesn’t love fruit” Candycoatedtreatss is a healthy snack it’s fun delicious and creative hopefully one day I can open up my own storefront that’s what I’m aiming towards in the near future the only way to do great work is to do what you love.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Some of the obstacles that I went through while building my small business, I would say, would be trying to perfect my craft, trying to make sure the fruits weren’t too soft or chewy but had that perfect crunch to them, or trying to get the color not so transparent. I learned how to keep the candy mixture from getting too hard or make sure the candy doesn’t dissolve or start to leak as fast.
It takes hard work and dedication. You have to be able to take the criticism and learn from your mistakes, never give up, and stay consistent. Be ready to receive those honest reviews, even if it’s stuff I would always ask my customers what they think I should do differently next time because without them, I wouldn’t be as far as I am today. I feel like I was ready for everything that came with it you have to give it your all especially if it’s something you love doing.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe you can tell us more about your work next?
What sets me apart from others is that my work grabs people’s attention. You can see my hard work through the details of my work intake. I make every order with love. My presentation has always been everything to me and just stood out. I specialize in confectionery.
What I’m most proud of is not letting every obstacle stop me from doing what I love. I’m just proud of making it this far while battling with an everyday health condition. I would say I’m known for my hustle, ambition, strength, and consistency before candycoatedtreatss. I was selling lashes and lipgloss, and I became really popular by coloring hair and selling wigs and extensions on Instagram.
So, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you before we go? How can they support you?
People could share their knowledge and resources with me, and maybe I have something to offer that they have been looking for. I’m looking for a team or sponsor to help me expand candycoatedtreatss.
