Today, we’d like to introduce you to Kathie (Kat) Fluellen.
Hi Kathie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
At the end of 2022, I reevaluated my life. I was longing for a change. At the time, I was working as an adoption case manager. I decided to leave my job in June 2023 to pursue my dream of becoming a nail technician. I was accepted at L’ESPRIT Academy in August and began the program in October.
Uniique Studios was born in August 2023, and my LLC was approved. While in school, I started working as a medical social worker because I still have a passion for social work. I am currently nearing the end of my manicuring program and am scheduled to graduate on April 4, 2024.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It is only the beginning, so I’m trying to give myself grace as I am working and in school. However, it’s been difficult posting consistently, which has affected my engagement and followers.
Also, my schedule has made it difficult to make time to practice my craft, but I try to be forgiving towards myself. Although I don’t have as much time to practice while I’m in school, the things I am learning in school will be invaluable to me and my customers when I am licensed.
We’ve been impressed with Uniique Studios, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Nail Artist/Entrepreneur Kathie, A.K.A Kat, founded Uniique Studios. As the owner of Uniique Studios, Kat has a true passion for turning your vision for your nails into reality. The overall health of nails is important to Kat.
She believes your nail health speaks volumes about your overall health and hygiene. Kat’s goal is to educate every client about nail health and how to care for their nails in between services. Kat created Uniique Studios to provide her clients with a Uniique kind of self-care.
Any big plans?
I want to be my own boss, which is all I’ll say for now. I have always been taught not to disclose my plans/goals and to reveal once the plan has been executed.
